  • Re: LG 42LN575V backlight issue.

Thanks guys for all your help.
While I am basing this on your initial diagnosis, I think I will write it off.
I don't have the patience to strip it down and test the LEDs, I really don't.
Nor do I have the money to purchase a power supply to test it and then £65+ for the strips.

We shall save and get a new one, if this has happened once before with this LG tv, it could again and I would rather cut and run.

I have learnt some good things doing this and I do appreciate the time you guys have taken...

    Sorry,

The figures for those P801 pins are (from top to bottom based on picture I just uploaded).

All readings fluctuate between two values:

    214/231
    34/74
    39/105
    45/80

Another dumb question, I didn't realise there was a second set of pins to test.

How can I test them? I tried removed the cable connected in there, but I assume the cable must be connected for the TV to function to a level where I can test it (the power button for example).

Thanks guys, really appreciate the detailed responses and thank you for putting up with my total lack of knowledge.

I did what you said (as best as I could) and got the attached readings.
All readings are when the TV is on and not on standby....

Sorry for not replying sooner. Money has been so tight, it has taken me nearly a month to scrape the money together for a meter.

I ended up buying one. I will admit, the settings wheel looks daunting.
To get the results you are after, by measuring certain points, which "mode" do I have the thing in? Or does it not matter?

I am going to try get those readings today, I need to know what is wrong with this damn TV....

  • Re: LG 42LN575V backlight issue.

Thanks all for giving me some good advice here. I will work my way through it best I can.
I removed the back cover again and using my terrible meter (which is essentially a series of lights going from 4V to 400V) I tested the contacts (marked on the attached). I assume that while the TV is on it would give out power? Well it doesn't. Every 3/4 seconds my tester flashes for a split second but that is it.
I would assume then that this board is just not providing power to the led strips?

I am leaning towards buying a new...

  • LG 42LN575V backlight issue.

    Hi,

Hoping you guys can come to my rescue here.
Firstly, let me apologise if my knowledge is not as thorough as you may be used to on this forum. I really know nothing about repairing, but I am reaching out in the aim of saving money on a repair and saving my family who are going crazy without a TV (2 young boys).

My LG 42LN575V has developed an issue. About 7 months ago, the backlight seemed to have failed. I could see the image if I shone a torch onto the screen. I sent it to my local repair shop and I think they charged me just over £100 to fix the issue....

  • Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

    Mellow greetings!
Hoping there are some wizards on here who will no doubt become a shoulder to cry on, since my luck with electrical items is rather, poor. Yikes.
