Re: LCD monitor backlight
I'm running my monitor at 30% and that's plenty bright for me. At higher brightness levels, there's some noticeable backlight bleeding at the edges.

Re: nVidia 7300GT AGP recap job
Sacon FZ 1500uf 6.3v = 1800mA ripple, 22mΩ esr
Panasonic FJ or Rubycon MCZ would make good replacements.
It should work once you recap; I had a 7600GS work for a few hours after I heard the caps blow.

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1
I found an original IBM model M keyboard with detachable ps/2 cable at a local thrift shop for only $2. Aside from a little dust, it works as well as the day it was made, which was almost 25 years ago.

Re: Enermax EG365P-VE 350W bad caps
Update on this psu: I've replaced the bad caps with some Sanyo CA. That fixed the fluctuating voltage issue. Now the 3.3v and 5v lines are rock steady when there's a load on the cpu....

Re: FYI: Cheap CR2032 at Harbor Freight
I usually pick some up at a dollar store. They typically come in packs of 3.

Re: WD RE4 black edition HDs
If you're looking for performance, you should be getting an SSD instead of bothering with RAID.

I had an image in my mind of a laptop filled with explosives. Did HP use those unsafe lithium-ion batteries in their computers?

Re: Enermax EG365P-VE 350W bad caps
Oh, I thought that the lower the ESR the better when it comes to power supplies. The problem is, I can't find any specs for these caps online and they've probably been out of production for awhile. I'll email JPCON and Enermax to see if they can provide the information, but I doubt they'll be of much help.
Since I don't have an ESR meter or an oscilloscope I'll have to guess and go with Per Hansson's suggestion of Rubycon ZL. It can't be worse than what's in there right now; the PSU still works okay even with the bulging caps.

Enermax EG365P-VE 350W bad caps
The 3.3v rail on this psu was fluctuating erratically, and when I opened it up I discovered two bulging capacitors in the output section. They are JP CE-TUR 2200uf 10v. I can't find any specs for this series, so what would be a good replacement for it? I have some leftover Rubycon MBZ 2200uf 6.3v caps from a previous motherboard recap so I was thinking maybe I could use those even though they are rated for a lower voltage?...

Re: EPROM [BIOS] Programmers - What's good?
I have an old Pentium II motherboard I use to hot swap bios chips in case of a failed flash. It works well with Uniflash, except for certain Phoenix bioses.

Replacing motor brushes
I've got a really old electric lawn mower that needs new brushes for the motor. I don't have the manual for it and it's no longer supported by the manufacturer, so I have no idea which part to get. Can I just use some generic brushes that are the same size, or is it important to match the hardness of the original?

Re: Geforce 7600gs recapping
The 470uf caps have CZ rather than FZ on them, though. Are they the same?

Geforce 7600gs recapping
After about two and a half years of service, the 1000uf FZ caps on my board went out with a loud bang.
I've already replaced those ones with Panasonic FM caps. They were bigger than the original ones, but fit with a little bending of the leads.
I'm gonna have to order the other sizes, so what's a good replacement for the 470uf caps? It looks like it's from a different series than the rest.
The stock fan seized up as well so I'll probably replace it with a Zalman cooler....

Re: ASUS A7V8X-X No Post
I'm running at 1680x1050 with a Geforce 7600gs. I thought that card could offload some of the video decoding from the CPU but I could never get it to work....

Re: ASUS A7V8X-X No Post
Looking at my own board, I notice there's nothing but OST caps around the vdimm regulator. Maybe they've gone bad? The CPU vrm uses Nichicon caps.

Re: ASUS A7V8X-X No Post
I'm running mine with a tbred 2200+ and it's fine with WinXP. My biggest complaint is that it can't run HD video without stuttering. I don't think it'd be any different under Linux....
