Re: Samsung corrupt mainboards
I apologize for the reply to an old msg however I wanted to see if anyone has been able to debug this one???
I must admit that I too fell victim to the looping MICOM update on the same set as above. I replaced the set but tucked it away for a rainy day fix as it can't be that complicated can it??

Re: LG 37LC5DC - 'snow' for video/audio but no control of buttons/menu/etc...
nevermind - figured out the cap after testing a good one out of circuit... only problem left is no RL ON being sent from mainboard... I think I checked every regulator but might have missed one... getting very close....

Re: LG 37LC5DC - 'snow' for video/audio but no control of buttons/menu/etc...
I pulled it on the bench again and the original statement about 3.4 changing states was false. The 3.4 ON pin reads 1.8V even when powered with backlights on. I did check the pinout from the power button and it changed voltage from 1.94V. All I can think of now is that a regulator somewhere on the main board is outputting the same or very close. I've also been probing transistors to see if any of them pass along the button press.
I think that once the 3.4V rail is sorted out this should be...Last edited by neex; 04-08-2017, 06:25 PM. Reason: need help interpreting SMD v type capacitor coding....

LG 37LC5DC - 'snow' for video/audio but no control of buttons/menu/etc...
All voltages to my knowledge check out fine. The set comes on and I am unable to power it off with the power button.. volume control doesn't work and neither do source selections.... I only get fuzz and 'white noise' audio. I didn't know if this was something common - I have searched the forum so I apologize if I missed something... I will be replacing every primary/filter cap but something tells me this isn't the issue as the rails seem to be putting out voltage within/above spec....
Here are my readings from P201 and P202

Just a quick update... I was able to get the SMPS back online and all voltages to my knowledge check out fine. The set comes on and I am unable to power it off with the power button.. volume control doesn't work and neither do source selections.... I only get fuzz and 'white noise' audio.

Hello again Fisher77-
I don't suppose you have an accurate schematic for this SMPS? I have some nackered pads and was hoping run a jumper from C204. It looks like I can jump the leg from C204 neg to R216?? Apologies if this sounds disastrous....
Thank you,

Hakko FM-202 - any real working experience with this soldering station?
Hi everyone,
I am wondering if anyone has used the Hakko FM-202 iron (I don't really care too much about the lockout/card feature or the UPC barcode tip reading temp set). I was hoping to stick to purely performance feedback in terms of temp recovery, etc. I couldn't find too many solid reviews online and would like to know how it compared in performance to the 888 or FX-951...
I hope this is appropriate chatter for this forum/section.
Thanks for any and all advice.
A.

Thanks again for all the comments and help! I have a decent 3 channel power supply that will do nicely for this and also have a variac and a train controller that do in a pinch. I will update this thread as I make more discoveries.
Thank you,
A.

Re: Electronics Technician Course - Online?
apologies for replying to such an old thread but Perry's resource bases are astounding for this kind of thing....
even though the material is centered more around audiophiles, there's a lot of great interactive learning and content.

Thanks so much Fisher77! I really appreciate this!
Here's hoping someone can help with the component-side R102 now...
Thank again!

The model number is 37LC5DC and no I can't read the numbers coded on the smd resistors. I even tried with my optical microscope. The board was victim to a lightning strike/bad power bad protection so the R216 was blown right in half (if you look closely) and the other side is charred too much to read. The board is actually is pretty good shape for the few kv that likely hit it.... I'll see if I can clean it with some iso and look through the scope again....
