Re: Identify bad caps and ferrite resistor
Thanks a lot for the explanation stj! Never in my life I'd think of cleaning a MB this way, but will do now! Really appreciate!

Re: Identify bad caps and ferrite resistor
A good bath? You mean with water and stuff? Or isopropyl alcohol? Excuse my inexperience in this.
Will scrape underneath that capacitor to check for more clues and post here.

Right, just checked the PSU and it seems OK, nothing bulged or leaking at first sight. Pretty well made PSU I think.

Re: Identify bad caps and ferrite resistor
But I must add, at least from the outside, the PSU is shiny new compared to the dusty PCB.
So, the images of the caps and the inductor does not inspire caution? I was positive that was some kind of leaking since on the bottom of those capacitors there's some accumulation of some sort of unidentifiable substance (as show on the images).

Re: Identify bad caps and ferrite resistor
Yes.... The PSU is from roughly the same time I bought and assembled this system (circa 2011)

Re: Identify bad caps and ferrite resistor
Wow! Thanks for the fast reply! The moisture must come from the environment of my city, since we're coastal corrosion is something quite normal here.
The PSU model is Antec Neo ECO 520W with 80 plus rating.

Identify bad caps and ferrite resistor
Could I get a hand on identifying those caps? This is a 5 year old M4A88TD-V Asus motherboard. Even though the board IS working and I can work on this PC, its PCI-e lanes are busted and no external VGA works in it.
The PSU is a pretty decent Antec with 80 plus. Anyways, here's some pics on the caps. All of them exhibit this strange pattern on their sides, some more, some less. Also, I seem to get some corrosion on a ferrite resistor near the CPU socket....
