• Re: Samsung S24D590PL LED partial backlight problem

I am having trouble finding a proper power source for the new LED strips. It looks like they require between 9 and 30v input. The original output on the stock LED seems to be 34v.

I was testing the original LED strip and noticed that the three sets were reading 33.8, 34, and 35V. When not plugged in to the strip the power seemed to measure about 6.6V. This confuses me, is the board regulating voltage to the strip or is something amis on the board causing the voltage to be slightly different for each set of LEDs?...

It looks like I might be able to make this set work. I don't think there is room in the bezel for 2 sets of LED strips but I will see once it arrives. I should be able to find a 12v source and can just pull the control pin on the original led output. I would rather find an actual replacement strip though. I will post and update how this works so that other searching can do the same or avoid.

• Re: Samsung S24D590PL LED partial backlight problem

CapLeaker, thanks for the encouragement. I had it mostly stripped down but the backlight was still in it.
I have now removed the backlight which I was surprised was only 1 led strip. It looks like 1/3 of the LEDs dont stay on. They will flash, then there will be a tiny tick from the board and then they will turn off. How can I determine if this is a LED issue or a board issue? Is the voltage supplied by one supply and divided or is it three separate transistors (is this the right name) that supply power to the strip?...

• Samsung S24D590PL LED partial backlight problem

Hello Knowledge holders.

First off, thanks for sharing all the info here, I have fixed multiple electronics by just searching the forum and finding what I needed.

Samsung S24D590PL model code is LS24D590PLY/ZA

I cant seem to find this particular one though. I bought this monitor at a thriftstore ($20) and it looked decent when plugged...

• Re: Viewsonic VX2370Smh-LED - 1/3 of LED not working

I have a similar situation. Glad you posted this recently.

It would appear that the fix for this would to be either find and replace the ONE led that may be causing the variable current or to replace the LED assembly. Does anyone know of sources for this? I think it would be easier to replace the whole assembly, not sure what the cost vs time break down would be. Thanks OP for posting and thanks RJ for the potential diagnostic.

• Re: HP Pavilion 500

Hello again, its been a while.

I have checked the PSU and all the components pass a visual inspection.

Since posting I have picked up another HP pavilion that functions but is older.
Ill have to check out the CPU socket and make sure they are the same, if so Ill test by swapping the CPU in to the working motherboard.

When they were both over here in the same lab I did switch out many components to see if I could get it working (motherboard, PSU, RAM, Video card), I didn't switch the CPU though and will maybe...

Re: Dell 1908FPt

Bud, is there a way to test for a bad LCD panel?

What causes an LCD panel to go bad? Physical trauma?

Could it be bad/old capacitors that are not within their limits anymore?

Thanks for the help!

• HP Pavilion 500

Hello new friends,

I acquired a HP Pavilion 500 from a coworker. He thinks that the GPU is bad, but it could also be a different part of the motherboard or the PSU, you can help me decide!

The ram and HDD were removed before I got to it, if I can fix this issue easily I will be purchasing new ram for it and a HDD if I come across a cheap one.

Pressing the power button has no result. When plugged in the PSU light on the back turns green.

Checking the PSU using the jumper method in turns on the fans so I am going to assume that the PSU...

Dell 1908FPt

Hello all,

First post here of probably many other problems that I will encounter!

I picked up a computer/monitor/keyboad/mouse from the community ewaste can.

Everything except for the monitor works, which is why it was probably placed in the recycle.

First two pictures attached are the symptom, a flickering headache inducing display that has horizontal lines and a slight double ghost image that is offset down the screen. Display is flickering and shakey.

I have opened it up following a youtube video but all of my capacitors...

• Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

Hello all,

I love DIY and fixing everything. From welding to soldering to machining new parts for things found in dumpsters.

I am decent mechanically, but lacking in the electrical troubleshooting and thats why im here!

One of my favorite things is to install linux on a previously 'broken' computer and then give the computer to someone who needs it. Next project will be to make a server out of a freebie computer!

Thanks all for the future help.
