• Thanks guys.

I just found the recap post Topcat posted, it showed in details concerning the 4 caps next to the parallel port. I went to my local dealer and bought 4 normal 105 degree 1000uF 16V caps. They should do the trick.

I assume that I could just have left the caps alone, on the Project:VP6 articles these caps aren't mentioned for replacement, and my board featured resoable jackon caps. But now they are replaced, and out of mind.

The kit i referred to, was the one on www.motherboardrepair.com
He uses 15 2200uF 6,3V, 2 1000uF...

• To many 16V caps...

Hey guys.

I've just gotten my VP6 and the caps i ordered yesterday.

When looking at the board, I see the 15 1500uF 6.3V Caps. Furthermore I see 4 1000uF 16V caps scattered arround the board. But what about the last 4 1000uF 16V next to the parallel port? I have 4 1000uF 6.3V caps left from my purchase.. All kits included this... Are the caps on the board just overrated? Or should i just leave them?

I know they arent marked on TomCats picture with red and green circles... Please help...

Well, time to warm up the soldering iron...

• Ok...

I've just located some Sanyo MV-WX Low Impedance miniature caps.
They should do the trick. And aren't all that expensive anyway.

Thanks for the help guys..

• Quality

Thanks... That helped a lot, 2200uF's are easier to find.

How about cap quality... Does it matter a lot if the quality are good?

Best regards

started a topic 1500µF = 2200µF

1500µF = 2200µF

Hey Guys.

I've just found a VP6 motherboard with a cap problem at a really nice price. Now i am just searching for some caps to replace the bad ones with.

A few questions relating that.

The 1500uF caps are pretty rare, can't they be replaced by 2200uF caps?
It might stress the regulators a bit more, but they should operate just fine with the larger charge capacity...

How critical are the specifications for the caps. Will rather cheap 105 degrees caps do the trick? Or must it be ultra low ESR cost-me-a-fortune caps? Any expiriences?...
