  • HP Elitebook Folio 9480m plugged in not charging

Greetings, i have an HP Elitebook Folio 9480M that where the battery is 0% avilable and says plugged in not charging and can only run when plugged in. I am using the original charger and have tried all the usual stuff such as deleting the battery drivers and removing the battery and so on. I have read that the issue is related to the bios and it may need to be updated but the problem is Its an ex corporate machine and has the Drive lock enabled so I can't into the bios. HP tech support gave me an smc.bin file to reload the bios but I couldn't do it as the the machine requests the drive lock password...

  • Re: Sharp LC-52D64U hard to start

Great News! The set is working now. I had to bite the bullet and buy the master inverter board and all looks ok now. It would of been nice to fix the old board but now I have some spare transformers in case of future troubles.
What led me to throw in the towel was while trying to measure the gate voltages to the mosfets to see if one wasn't receiving a proper gate voltage to fire, my probe slipped and shorted one FET out. So now my trouble was compounded and i just decided to get the whole board. However I was getting some measurements...

Those are some good tips to narrow it down. Im going to have another go at it today. Just wondering, does this seem like the trouble could be a bad lamp and the heavy current draw is from the fet and transformer trying to fire up the faulty bulb?

  • Re: Sharp LC-52D64U hard to start

So I swapped the suspect mosfet positions with another on the same board but the trouble didn't follow the suspected fet. So it looks now the issue is not the fet but the actual board being heat up. The pad area underneath the problem area looks darkened from prolonged heat and I noticed a very small hairline crack on the top side of the board underneath where the fet was. Now this is the trouble area and heating it up temporarily fixes the issue. I was hoping to find a broken trace or solder joint on the flip side but couldn't find any defects....

Great advice guys! I think i have it narrowed it down to a single mosfet now. I touched up the joints but no go. I made a funnel for the hair dryer and found it this way. I can remedy the the problem on command now by heating the fet and quickly induce the problem by cooling it. Im going to swap its position with another of the same fet on the board and see if the trouble moves with it.

Please disregard, I tried heating up the sheet metal again but no go, it is something on the master inverter that is thermal related. I wil try to test the transformers. One has a slight bulge in it....

Thanks, a lot of good info in that video. I touched up all the solder joints of the transformers but didn't help. I was trying to zone in on the individual component that needed to heat up in order for the tv to fire up but I noticed if if heated up the bare sheet metal section next to the master inverter the set was firing up immediately as well. So it seems the hair dryer is heating up the tubes just behind which is the absolute worst case scenario. The set seems like a good candidate for an LED conversion! I saw a video on youtube where a guy...

Back to the drawing board...just replaced all 8 (100v 82uF) electrolytic caps on the master and slave inverter boards with some Rubycons but itdidn't fix it...same flickering. I will try to heat up the large ceramic caps on the master inverter board to eliminate those as the hairdryer trick on the master gets the tv going immediately.

The hairdryer trick is working! I heated the master inverter board for about 30 seconds and again the set fired up straight away with no flicker. I'll replace the electrolytics on the board and see. The other thing which i hope isn't happening is heat getting to the bulbs directly behind the inverter board and warming them up, making the board appear to be the problem when it could be the bulb. But probably not as the heat would have to permeate the sheet metal also and it would only be heating a smallm section.

  • Re: Sharp LC-52D64U hard to start

I was thinking along the same lines, are the bulbs nearing end of life and drawing too much power to start or do they need some extra time to fire? Looking at the datasheet of the ccfl controller oz9928, it says the controller will shut down if it detects excessive voltage, excessive current, or if the ccfl hasn't ignited in the user-defined time, or if a ccfl is broken, or missing.

@ nomoresonys, i put a hair dryer to the power supply hit the power button and the picture flickered on then shut off with power light blinking. I then...

The tv works normally with a nice bright picture but when it sits over night and you turn it on the next day it takes at least 7 attempts before the picture comes on and stays on. It behaves like an old car hard to start but runs good after its warmed up. It is easy to restart once it has been on for a while.

Here are some pics of the internals. I didn’t see any bulged caps or any burnt components....

  • Sharp LC-52D64U hard to start

Greetings all! I have aquired a sharp lc-52d64u from the street and wanted to see if i can bring it back and use in my basement. The set that fails to start up. The tv attempts to power up and you can see the backlight flicker and see a brief picture then it shuts down. It looks like every other ccfl is lit up during the start up. After multiple failed start up attempts, the error code is triggered and you get locked out with power led flashing at 1 second intervals. A hard reset of vol up and chan down and power plug removal clears the error. The thing is that on every successive start up attempt...
