  • Re: Samsung UN65JS8500FXZA - Screen goes black when smarthub is plugged into TV

    Dang,

Not sure how to check very many of these components. See the circuit board in the attached picture....

The wire on mine is quite substantial. It is about the same thickness as a normal HDMI cable - just slightly thinner than coaxial cable.

nomoresonys, what is an "invisible cable wire"?

I just remembered another experiment that I conducted. There is a proprietary cable which connects the One Connect Mini to the back of the TV. With the TV working properly in wireless mode (i.e. displaying the picture and sound from an Amazon Prime show), I detached this cable from the One Connect Mini and plugged it into the TV. To be clear - one end of the cable was plugged into the TV and the other end of the cable was connected to nothing. The TV display instantly went black and the periodic clicking...

Repairing my one connect mini would be awesome. Any ideas on what to look for? I just opened it. There is one circuit board to which are attached 8 ports and lots of small circuitry. Not even a single big capacitor to look at to see if it is blown I would have no idea where to even look for a problem.

Thanks much for the rapid feedback. If I buy a new mini connect, would it be likely that the TV would work normally again? New, they are an outrageous $125 to $140. They have some "open box" versions on Ebay for $30-$45 and some used ones also.

But the clicking is coming from inside the TV not from inside the one connect mini. Does that mean the one connect mini could still be the problem?

  • Samsung UN65JS8500FXZA - Screen goes black when smarthub is plugged into TV

I have a Samsung UN65JS8500FXZA TV. It is about 5 yrs old. This is a model where the main input to the TV is a proprietary cord connected to a "one connect mini" hub. This one connect mini has a variety of inputs including the various HDMI inputs.

With the cord from the "one connect mini" NOT plugged into the TV, I can get the TV to connect wirelessly to our router and from there I can stream shows. The picture and sound are normal.

The moment that I plug the one connect mini cord into the back of the TV, the screen goes black and I get a periodic...

  • Re: e701i-a3 no picture but backlights

budwich, Thanks for the quick response. I will look at the cables as you suggest. Any cables in particular? The tv has been mounted on the wall since the previous tab removal repair and has not been so much as nudged since that time. While it is possible a cable has lost connection, it seems more likely that the unit is toast.

Please pardon my lack of knowledge of the technical terms. Is a "driver" something that I can replace or is the "driver" the remaining tabs along the vertical left side of the TV which...

  • Re: e701i-a3 no picture but backlights

On my Vizio e701i-a3, I successfully replaced the transistor and removed the tabs on the right side of the TV (as viewed from the front). This was about 3-4 months ago. The TV worked fine after that. Yesterday, the TV stopped working again and now only shows what is seen in the picture below when it is connected to a TV cable channel or even when just being turned on. Any help diagnosing this problem would be greatly appreciated.

    G'day,

    Vinish...

Well, another satisfied customer. Satisfied with this board and the experts who found the fix .... not so satisfied with Vizio. I followed the instructions in this lengthy thread and my Vizio E701i-a3 is back in business. I bought four transistors, unsoldered the offending one, soldered in a new one, peeled off the tabs on one side and the TV works like a charm. I actually got someone in my community to help with the soldering but after having seen him do it, I think I could manage if I had a VERY pointy soldering iron tip. Thanks to freakaftr8...

Sorry, but another question. If no one has some extra MOSFET/COXA transistors I could buy, I would be happy to purchase them online. I looked at Mouser electronics and they do not offer the RTR020N05 part number. Rather, they offer: RTR020N05TL. I'm not sure what the "TL" means on the end. Is the "TL" version the same as the non-TL version? Thanks for any help you can offer.

    G'day,

  • Re: e701i-a3 no picture but backlights

I am having the same problem with a Vizio E701i-A3 as so many others here have described. I closely examined the side panel flexible/film connectors and, sure enough, the tiny little IC in the bottom right (as viewed from the front of the TV) flexible/film connector is dark and clearly burned up.

As others have reported, the COXA transistor on the TCON board is shorted (~0 ohms) from the single pin (black DMM probe) to the bottom right pin (red DMM probe). It looks like I have to replace the transistor or the Tcon board. In...

  • Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

Thanks for letting me join your community. I joined after searching for solutions to the problem my Vizio E701i-a3 is having. I hope to be able to gain useful info from this forum. If I'm lucky, I will be able to contribute but this could be a stretch for me as electronics is not my area of expertise.

I am a chemical/polymer engineer by education and know my way around the basics of a multimeter and have soldered wires on motorcycles many times but only once on a printed circuit so this would likely stretch my abilities....
