    Never said the Hitachi was faster, as to mean faster than the Raptor in all regards. I said my Hitachi had a faster [u]access time[/u] than the Raptor installed on my system. You decided to twist my words. I shouldn't have to say this, it's in my previous posts, if you'd bother to read them properly.



    You haven't been reading my posts, nor StorageReview's it seems. I already said, the access time of 13.1ms reported by SR is the combined spindle speed and drive access times. You have to subtract 4.2ms from the total...

    Actually, I said MY Hitachi has a faster seek time than MY Raptor, and you started in on me about how that was impossible, even though I posted the benchmarks from my computers which you seem to have completely glossed over. Your mistake, not mine. I then went on to show, using your favored benchmark suite because you didn't agree with Sandra, that my drive truly does have faster performance than posted specs, 9.1% faster performance, and you ignored that too. You're never going to admit you're wrong, regardless of the fact that I used a program...

    I could hit 40MHz with my old Quantum 20GB drive, and it posted a benchmarkable difference. I wouldn't o/c like that now, but back in '99 everyone was doing it.

    And, here's why I say you don't know what you're talking about... the score that manufacturers list is the access speed of the drive, minus the delay for spindle rotation. 12ms minus spindle speed (4.2avg at 7200rpm) = 7.8ms... that's FASTER than the rated manufacturer specs of 8.5. Again, you're just trying to cover your earlier mistakes and digging yourself into a deeper...

    Yeah? Tiresias posts benchmarks from Tweakers, but they use Sandra and you say nothing about it, see attached. Biased much?

    You don't need to post large photos, btw. It's easier just to link to the benchmarks, and that particular one you posted has already been linked.

    1. I'm using an NForce2 based motherboard, the PCI interface is independent of the FSB/DRAM, therefore the hard drive is not overclocked. See attached.

    2. I did two tests of the hard drive, one with SiSoftSandra, the other with AnalyzeDisk, the same program used by StorageReview and Tweakers. Sandra posts an average access time of 6ms, AnalyzeDisk reports 12ms, see attached. Both scores put my drive in the SCSI/SATA range. That puts my drive in the same range as an IBM Ultrastar 18ES 9GB SCSI according to your venerated websites....

    The only misinformation is coming from yourself. You keep showing me benchmarks for Hitachi drive models DIFFERENT THAN MY OWN. Your benchmark "bash" is meaningless. It's like you're intentionally trying to avoid addressing my specific drive model; why else do you keep posting benchmarks for the SATA version, when I'm using the PATA model? Secondly, just because it's SCSI, or new technology, SATA-I/II, etc..., doesn't mean that it will automatically have the fasteset access times.     Did you even look at the benchmarks I posted? I'm scoring 6ms in access time. The access time for the Raptor in that review posted between 7.7 and 9ms. So, it's slower than my system. As far as transfer times are concerned, obviously my Hitachi can't match the Raptor....

    Thanks. It's supposed an Asia only thing, but a few online retailers in the States got a hold of some shipments, and I managed to snag one. Attached are pics of a Thorton I'm building a new machine around. I won't mention the speed, check out the OPN.

    Nice job on the O/C, btw. 8 points shy of 200FSB is excellent for that CPU. Is that default voltage?...

    There aren't any Hitachi 160GB ATA scores anywhere on that site. They list OLDER model Hitachi ATA drives that were still under the IBM designations, and that's it. My RECENTLY made Hitachi still has a faster access time than every SATA Raptor listed on that site by almost a full ms. You can disagree with me all you like, you're still wrong, and linking to benchmarks for a drive that's not mine proves nothing.     You said you were building a "gaming system." What you've just described is a faster than average SOHO system.



    I run Doom3 on my Raptor, and like I said before... it saves all of a few seconds in load up time. You're placing an inordinate amount of importance on 5 second level loads, versus 45 minutes of smooth game play.



    Good lord, man... See my above comment. And, see attached. It's my Timedemo Demo1 score in Doom 3 on Radeon 9500 128MB made more than 3 years ago. 19.3fps...

    Actually, it's not that fast. Those specs are marketing hype capitalizing on theoretical maximums. I have actual results, see attached. My Hitachi is running on an Epox 8RDA3+Pro with an 3300+ Sempron. The Raptor is on an Abit AN7 with a 3200+ AthlonXP. And, in this review:

    My Hitachi 7200rpm IDE drive comes within 5MB/s of my Raptor. The SATA-1 Raptors are an over-hyped bandwagon. SATA-II on the otherhand, my Hitachi can't hold a candle to it....
