  • Re: Toshiba 50" 50L3400U blinking backlight

I was under the impression that removing pin 15 or disabling the dim would stop the blinking by not allowing the dim control to give the reading that there was no signal from the burnt led bulbs I think this tv will work well with the dim set in the same range as you are using so I will try it and see rather than take everything apart. If I ever do change the bulbs I will look into it further. Thanks for the link

It runs at a low backlight setting so i guess maybe i will just do that and then worry about adding resistors at a later date or just toss it in the garbage lol. thanks for the help i appreciate it.

Not sure about the DCV i left my voltage meter at home and i obviously dont know where the dim pin is yet lol right now i havent got the tv apart as i have to get ready for work but i do want to try what you suggest to lower the voltage going to the led strips. if i can accomplish that then I will likely replace the strips as i know they will last longer. if i need resistors which ones should i have ( i may need to order them)...

I am able to dim the screen so i obviously do not have the dim disabled not to mention the screen just started flashing again when i increased the backlight .
I do have some resistors but I haven't got access to them today. I am not a pro i am still learning so be gentle with me ....

Thanks budm so what type/kind of 100K Pot would you recommend? could use a link if possible please?
Another question does turning down the backlight brightness in the tv menu do the same as adding the 100K Pot I am assuming it doesn't reduce the current or not enough? Also how will I know a safe limit to run the Leds at? i appreciate your help and this info will also be relevant to the OP so i don't feel as bad about hijacking his thread.
This youtube link seems to explain why the led strips burn out so...

Thanks for the suggestion budm .
From my research the burning out led strip problem seems to be a common issue for this Tv maybe the board is putting too much voltage to the leds or they are just cheap and burn out easily? I will keep the backlight settings lower and use it with pin 15 disconnected at least it doesn't seem to be blinking anymore and the picture seems pretty decent other than the spot i mentioned that is not really noticeable . I am not sure i want to invest money into this tv if putting a new strip...

Yep i did that as i said in my other post i tried all settings that could be related to the problem & also updated to latest firmware with no joy..
I have noticed in the bottom right of the screen it looks to be darker when there is a white screen showing, this could be where the burnt LED or leds are located I am assuming that this is what is the actual problem with this TV I may have to order some new strips If i can figure out where to get them as this TV might be worth saving. I notice that this thread...

I just removed Pin 15 (DIM?) from the power board going to the video board the tv turns on and is working. I have maxed out the backlight to 100 and have not messed with any other settings to see what could be affected by unplugging the pin and i will observe it for failures or blinking and report back as of now 5 mins being turned on its working normally. PS i am not too concerned about frying the tv as long as it does not burn my house down in the process from removing the wire lol.. I could do all of the checking of the leds etc...

    I have this exact problem
    Model: Toshiba 50L3400U
    Manufacture date:June 2014
    Tried updating all settings etc..
It blinks faster as i increase the backlight.
I read somewhere that cutting or unplugging a yellow wire from (pin 15?)would keep the board from sending the signal to shut down the screen. I am wondering if this might be a valid workaround fix.. of course the led bulbs would burn out eventually but i am wondering if disabling it from shutting off could cause things to melt or cause a fire?...
