Hello all,
We have a Vizio SVT320XVT that is 18 months old and now it loses its picture after about 15 minutes. After it loses it picture I can shut it off for about 10 minutes or so and then turn it back on and it will have its pictuire back for another 15 minutes or so. Is there any way to troubleshoot this down the the board level. I see there are several replacement boards I could purchase - main board, IR board, T-Control board (?), power board, display board. I havent opened it up yet. We spent $480 for this - it was a Christmas present I got for my wife Dec 2010.

Re: Gateway FPD1760 out again
Ive decided that further effort to save this monitor is not worth it at this point. I dont feel comfortable testing for voltages with the unit opened up. I figure for the small cost of of the caps I installed in Oct 2010 I got another year out of it and thats fine. Im looking to pick up an el-cheapo 19" Acer at Walmart for about $100.
Thanks everyone for all your help!!

Re: Gateway FPD1760 out again
I guess Im a bit confused now and I hope I used the correct name for the small PCB that sits next to the large PS board. I assumed that was the logic board but it may not be. The monitor has 3 boards total: the PS board, a smaller board (show in the attachment), and a long board that is directly attached to the LCD. The PS board and the smaller board are both inside the metal housing that mount to the back of the plastic enclosure. The smaller board has the connector on it that extendes outside the enclosure that you plug in the cable...Last edited by TWR2003; 10-28-2011, 11:37 AM.

Re: Gateway FPD1760 out again
Power button functions normally. Its just a white screen with vertical lines. You can very vaguely make out the desktop icons in the white/lines. Ive had the unit opened and closed with cables connected and disconnected. Im assuming its not a problem on the main PS board where I replaced caps last year but on the smaller logic board. Ive gone over the board with a magnifying eye loupe looking for any components/solder joints that dont look right but everything looks OK.
What about the electrolytic caps on that board?...

Gateway FPD1760 out again
Hello all,
I had repaired my Gateway FPD1760 monitor back in Oct 2010. At that time it had the infamous '2 seconds then black' failure and I was able to repair it by replacing many caps on the PS board. Im currently using an old CRT monitor that I picked up for free when this one went out last year and it works fine so I know the computer is OK. My original repair from last year is shown at this thread:

Now it has a new problem in that it turns on and stays on but the entire screen is pretty much...

Re: Gateway FPD1760
Hello to all,
I just wanted to check back in and say that replacing all the caps on my PS board was succesfull!!! I cant believe that for $3.00 worth of capacitors I have my monitor up and running again. I could not have done it without this site and all that helped. THANK YOU!!!
I think the hardest part of the repair was getting the monitor case apart without breaking anything (small hidden tabs all along the case halves). Also some of the internal connectors are difficult to unmate/mate due to there not being much 'slack' in the internal...

Re: Gateway FPD1760
OK, I will replace C103 as well as C203, C204, C205, and C206. I have ordered the Panasonic FC caps from Digikey - the FM series are all on back order. I found that the FM series are all less expensive that the FC which I find weird if infact they are actually better quality that the FC series.
I wont take out the old caps until I have the new ones in hand so it probably going to be a while until I post again but I will keep everyone up to date on my progress.
Thank you to ALL for the help.

Re: Gateway FPD1760
Hello,
Thank you for the welcome!
I chose the FC series because I though they were better that the FM series based on the link at this thread (perhaps I mis-read it):
https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=2280
What spec should I look at between the equivalent FC and FM capacitors so I can see that the FMs are better? The caps I chose have the same mechanical package as the ones Im replacing so everything should fit fine. I was going to purchase double qty of all the caps I need and the total...Last edited by TWR2003; 10-29-2010, 10:01 AM.

Re: Gateway FPD1760
Just a follow up - I went to the Digikey site and found the following Panasonic type FC:
C203, C205 = 680uF 25V = P10277-ND
C204 = 470uF 25V = P10275-ND
C206 = 680uF 10V = P10222-ND
C103 = 47uF 50V = P10321-ND
Not sure which way to go. All advice welcome. Thanks.

Gateway FPD1760
Hello all,
I am trying to repair a Gateway FPD1760 monitor (manufactured 8/05) that has the 'on for 2 seconds then black' problem. Ive disassembled the unit (a bit of a PITA) down to the PS board. The PS board has 'YP1704G' and '6871TPT317A' printed on it. The back label has 'PT5602F317A0408'. The caps are as follows:
C203, C205 = 680uF 25V
C204 = 470uF 25V
C206 = 680uF 10V
C103 = 47uF 50V
Im going to replace C203, C204, C205, and C206. As you can see in the attached pics C203 and C205 and definately bulging at the top. Im not sure that I should...
