Hi. I have some electronics experience and bought a MESR100 ESR meter from Ebay a few years ago to help diagnose a faulty Bose wave radio. Replaced a half dozen caps and it was back to working, yea!
Since then I've used it on a half dozen different items for my family, often with good results. Still, there are certain things I don't understand, like why the meter works with electrolytic caps but doesn't register anything with others, like ceramic caps. And then there's this next problem...
So, I was trying to find what's wrong with a mostly working Polk PSW111 subwoofer...

Re: Samsung LNT3242HX/XAA Power Supply Issue
Just an update on my LNT3242H...
After some further searching, I found someone with the same issue who claimed the adhesive used can become conductive as it degrades. So I went ahead and scraped away the adhesive on the resistor/caps (and elsewhere on the board, touching any other leads), and sure enough underneath there's a black scorch mark on the board between the leads of the fusible resistor to the small cap. Hard to test the small ceramic cap without removing it, so I tried replacing only the resistor to test it out, and...Last edited by Dangermouse1; 11-22-2016, 11:40 PM.

Re: Samsung LNT3242HX/XAA Power Supply Issue
Hi. Joined just to ask you a question or two. Did that repair keep? Also, did you double check the components you removed to see if they were really dead/damaged?
I ask because I opened up a LN3242HX and found a damaged RM801 (fusible .22 Ohm) with the gunk on it and the nearby caps, just like you reported. Unlike you though, I believe that gunk is the adhesive they add to... to ... well whatever reasons they have for gooping parts together. Reduce vibrations? The same goop was in a number of other places too. Just...
