• Re: slow laptop after install norton internet security

Not one soul said a word about avria. they make one of the best free anti-virus programs out now.
www.free-av.com is the site to get it from.
note that when you first install and use it you'll notice a popup ad that will pop up when it updates itself.

Found this when I was cursing yahoo answers on how to disable that nag screen:

Windows 2000:
1. Click Start, and then click Run

Re: 7200.11 failure

I have two 1TB 7200.11 drives in my main box, one for storage one for backup. I also have a couple of 500GB WD drives that are not hooked up as backup drives as well

I haven't had any issues from any of the drives at all. The seagates all have the latest firmware installed out of the box. one of the WD's failed the smart test but it's never given me any issues *knocks on wood*.

weekly backups are done drive to drive... monthly backups are done externally. if this was done professionally I'd be doing daily backups using scripts...

The build isn't for me it's for a client so if it wasn't for the IDE CD rom drive I'd go with the foxconn... I'll have to see what she says. This is turning into a budget buster pretty fast LOL!

anyways, here's the list I have for the build in case anyone is wondering:
CPU

motherboard,**note** this is the board I originally planed to get for the build

I tried that and it didn't throttle down the fans... fans stayed at full speed shortly after post. I think I let it boot up all the way once with switch 3 off, but I'm not 100% sure. I'll have to try that out again sometime soon....

Crap, I almost missed that lack of IDE controller. While that's not a show stopper, I'd have to spend another $30 or so for a replacement drive over the one that's currently in the computer (IDE).

thanks!...

I found this nice looking board and am seriously considering it for a low cost build that needs to last a long time >5 years:

my only other option is about $40 more:

anyway, just as the title asks can you tell who makes the caps on the two above boards?
Thanks!https://I found this nice looking bo...a long time >5

I have the same server. I didn't install windows on it though, too much of a hassle IMHO :p
I installed Opensuse. that found all the drivers needed and I have a fully functioning server running Linux. oh and BTW, the fans can be turned down with the HPASM tool.
I did a how-to on a blog that I'll post here as well:
=================================================================
details on how I got the LOUD fans to throttle down to how they should be using HPASM and opensuse 11.1.
#1 -download “hpasm-7.5.1-8.sles8.i386.rpm”...
