I found this thread searching for 'razer "schottky"' since my schottky diode near the battery connection on my customer's Blade had a similar "poof" event. There were no other issues. Other than the traditional battery = spicy pillow. Razers and their batteries huh?

Never had to ask before, but this IC a SOT-23-5 is marked with
[U]K[/U]2N18
Pin 1 has ~600mA
Pin 2 is GND
Pin 3 seems NC
Pin 4 is 1.8v directly next to a 100K resistor to gnd
Pin 5 is 3.3
It's on the EDP circuit, possibly BKLT or EDP PWR? One cap blew and pins 1-2 are shorted on the bad device
One website says it's a RP400N301B (smdmark)
The board is labeled with NB3029_MB_U_V4 and the FRU is 5B21C22573

You're all right mate. It's a set up you've read hundreds of times, you were looking for the familiar or unfamiliar. [I]I [/I]actually should know better, I'm not really new at this and I am embarrassed (but proud to have made an example for google searchers).
The adapter is absolutely part of the "equation" of board repair, in that it's sometimes variable.
Also I just read that sometimes the onewire resistor is in the tip, sometimes it's in the transformer box. This true? Guess I was lucky...Leave a comment:

This was it. Hopefully my experience will allow other techs to find this circuit which was clearly printed, but ignored by me. I put a blob in between pins 1 and 2 on PQ6004 and the (third) battery is now charging at 3 amps and climbing. Reformatt, thank you. This is the first I've seen this circuit, I suppose my shop is not as high volume?!?

I tried a couple other bq24780s from dead boards, they showed different symptoms that I didn't like so I put the original back on.

Got it, that makes sense. Good to check.
SRP - ~40M to ground
SRN - ~40M to ground
.471 on diode mode SRN/P
As much as I know how to check them. The resistances across pins are all megaohm range. Gates, sources, drains all seem fine in all directions. I normally am able to search and repair by myself, but not on this one. Nice Asus laptop had a short on one of the dual fets feeding the cpu, lucky customer! The board works, boots ok, but the battery does not charge. I don't have a Laptop Battery Analyzer yet so I ordered a replacement. Now I'm 3 replacements deep and I'm out of ideas.
Here are the measurements around BQ24780s that I know to get. this is on my bench supply set at 19.5 and the latest, best battery I have:
ACN/P are both 19.5 and
ACDRV is 25.46
ACDET is present at 2.654

No worky. I love you though.
Flashed using a xgecu II. Seems to do the same as before. Dell logo comes on, it goes away briefly, comes back, does the 6 white, 3 amber about 4 times in a loop and powers off again. Pulling plenty of current when off so it's charging battery ok.
I have tried all the ways I know how of performing a recovery (i think i've only had ONE dell bios recovery go to plan), ctrl-esc, fat32 on a 8gb usb 2 drive, ntfs just in case too, bios_img.rcv BIOS_IMG.rcv etc.

I tried my hand at it with FIT and ME Analyzer but was not successful... -
XPS Slooooooow charging after blown diode.
XPS 9360 | LA-D841P
Schottky blew on dc in. I repaired the traces, replaced the diode, checked diode mode, and tested with no batt. Powered on just fine first time. For good measure tested all the other passive components that lead to the power IC and all seems fine. Tested with battery and the battery is now charging, adapter is recognized, but the battery charges only 2% per 20 mins or so. Urf. Gave it time since it could have been sitting for months for all i know.
Same slow charge rate. Replaced the power IC since it's visibly in line with the exploded diode... -

I just finished up with and Elite 840 G1 last night. I still have its main bios dump if you need to test at least.
I would try doing the Win-V bios recovery method with the bios extracted from HP's site. The G1 I was working with did not work with this method, but perhaps you have a later model?Leave a comment:
