    Thanks for everyones help so far on this.

    I managed to locate a visually identical component on a different laptop motherboard so used this to replace the one in the photo, but the fault is still there. I guess that this blown component must have been the result of another faulty component on the board

    I guess there is no saying that the component I used was fully working, but it didnt have the visual bulge like the one in the picture.

    Identifying component

    Hi all,

    I am trying to identify a small component black in colour with white band on one side with marking '3T' only. It looks like a SMD Tantalum and its size is approx 2mm x 1mm with two contact (one either end).

    It has a small bulge in the middle so looks like it has blown and I would like to replace it!
