Re: SHARP LC-46DG2U Vertical Lines on menus / block pattern on display
Ahh...ok thank you. The strange thing is that since I did the heat up, the TV has been functioning normally for a few hours, though apparently I shouldn't expect any long term results. I do see there are main boards for sale on eBay for around $80 or less which apparently come from units with shattered screens.

Re: SHARP LC-46DG2U Vertical Lines on menus / block pattern on display
Ok, thanks Vince. But what area should I be heating? Like I said, I don't see a conventional heatsink as far as how I know they're supposed to look.

Re: SHARP LC-46DG2U Vertical Lines on menus / block pattern on display
Hey, just as a follow up, wanted to let you know that the early testing of this has seemed to work so far. I didn't really see a traditional looking heatsink, unless it's under that second shield (see pic), which doesn't simply have screws to detach it.
Therefore, I just hit that area with the lower level of heat on a...

Thanks again. So let me ask another incredibly novice question. Since I see a lot of repair suggestions involving placing the unit face down when doing repairs, that would not apply here I assume. The other would be more so for soldering and the like of course, correct?

SHARP LC-46DG2U Vertical Lines on menus / block pattern on display
Hi all. Thanks to the owner/mods for allowing thread creation so quickly on this site. I hope to learn a lot.
This unit is coming up on 8 years old. The symptoms, seen in the pics, started up a few weeks ago. They appear soon after turning the set on. They occur on any input, HDMI or component. It seemed initially it was only horizontal on the display, but I may not have been looking closely enough. It does not seem to affect anything if I push on the input ports (if that means anything to anyone).
From what I've read I possibly could get away with just a capacitor swap...

Re: New Members - please post your introductions here
Hi all.... I'm Gordo and found this site via the avsforum.com site (thanks budwich if that's your name on here too!).
I generally know my way around the software of a PC pretty well and enjoy still and video editing (and long walks on the beach!.... I keed, I keed!) I'm not that handy with the hardward electronics end of things but did build my own PC from a kit, though it was fairly elementary. I do like to pick the brains of the tech friends I have.
I'm specifically here because of the latest symptoms...
