Re: Sony Bravia KDL-46W-5100 Vertical Lines
Thanks again.
I have no test pattern signal generator.
The attached picture is the clearest I can get. The screen has looked the same from the beginning, before and after re-seating the cables. Nothing has changed. Same vertical red lines.
I apologize for being such an amateur and realize it can be frustrating to deal with....

Re: Sony Bravia KDL-46W-5100 Vertical Lines
Just took another picture like the first one. I think it was the camera angle that didn't show the right side lines on the first one. They are faint, but there.
Attached both.
Included a third picture that may show the lines better, again, some are faint. The picture appears clear behind the lines.
The lines appear completely across the screen....Last edited by NickSteel; 10-05-2016, 11:02 AM.

After I reseated the cables.
Just cleaned the cable ends with alcohol and reseated. No change.
I can only access the cable ends that plug to the t-con board from the panel.Last edited by NickSteel; 10-05-2016, 10:01 AM.

These are better pictures. Hard to take with reflection....

Curious.
Although I've accepted that the t-con should not be the problem and that the panel has failed, why do lines appear over the entire screen, not only on one side?

Best Brands for longevity.
I know everyone has their favored brands, but are any known for their lack of problems?
(I have a Sony KDL-46W-5100 that is dying at 6 years - vertical lines).
I had an LG fail last year, but easily repaired it with capacitors and advice from here.
Although kinda vague, any thoughts?

Also, I think that if were a connection problem, only 1/2 of the screen would probably be affected, unlike my whole screen.

Kinda late to avoid now.

Yeah. And the lines are all across the screen, not just on half as one connector would result in.
I'm semi-retired and need a few small challenges anyway.Last edited by NickSteel; 09-29-2016, 05:21 PM.

Re: Sony Bravia KDL-46W-5100 Vertical Lines
Since the back is still off, I tried the tape on the top of the connectors to snug the fit.
No change.
Shame, as the picture is so bright and clear....Last edited by NickSteel; 09-29-2016, 04:53 PM.

Yeah. Best Buy takes, but for $25 fee. Where I live, there are no free recycle locations and I'm not into Ebay selling.
If it had been a more simple part, I would have attempted it, just for the challenge, but........."A Man's Got to Know his Limitations".

I'm not very experienced with TV repair, but I did revive an LG last year with a couple new capacitors. So much satisfaction!

Thanks.
Even though I hate to "throw away" anything, I guess this has become a recycle candidate.

Vertical lines. Most probable cause?
I have unplugged and plugged T-Con cables.
Thanks....Last edited by NickSteel; 09-28-2016, 11:40 AM.
