Re: Broadband Filter ADSL Nation Capacitor Upgrade Values
That is most surprising - could you please provide the reference or source of your information about the 10% figure.
Thank you for the information budm - I understand from that there is no real gain to be had from me meddling with different transistors in this application?...

Re: ECU's, interfaces and baud rates
Personally unless I do 100% of the work myself I never know how much other "specialists" have REALLY done or tested - they are in the business of making money by billing hours which is not necessarily the same goal as fixing the problem! So the first thing I usually do is re-do everything that is meant to have been investigated / replaced.
Nevertheless - what fault codes and useful info have you discovered from connecting the laptop to the ECU - has that given any good new clues?
"Tested good" could...Last edited by UHU; 04-08-2017, 10:35 AM.

Re: Looking for Bi-Polar 1.8uF 250Volt & 1uF 100Volt
Kudos and thank you to petehall347 - your suggestion was just what was needed - fantastic results - see https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?p=721424#post721424
petehall347 - would you be able to decipher the remaining capacitor codes (like “F152Je., 400MEF1”) or point me in the right direction - are you a Transistor expert? If so please comment on the linked thread.Re: Looking for Bi-Polar 1.8uF 250Vo...suggestion was

Re: Philips no Backlights
Thank you R_J - you were absolutely right about those capacitor values.
Took it all apart again to finish the job - it was still working when I disassembled it - just with random bouts of mangled garbage display (but no more missing image) at power on (power cycle to clear) - then discovered the top right hand side (next to PSU) screw holding the Logic Board to chassis was loose and as I had not touched anything else yet tightened it and tried power on - thinking it was only intermittently earthing and that was causing the weird problems...

Re: Shorted Graphic Card Gigabyte GV-N580UD-15I Rev 1.0 (nVidia GTX 580)
Once you get the flux if it still wont move you could try pre-heating the underside of the card to around 100c - if you don't have a dedicated PCB heater try some kind of radiating electric heat source or a second heat gun on low then once the card has reached 100c from heating the underside try your current method again on the already hot card.
Bear in mind it is a dual sided and probably multi-layer PCB (maybe the real question is how many layers of copper?) so it has quite some thermal mass...Last edited by UHU; 03-10-2017, 01:34 PM.

Re: Broadband Filter ADSL Nation Capacitor Upgrade Values
Very successful (and cheap) repair resulting in massive speed improvement for all internet connected devices on the computer network – read on for details.
Think about it, there is no reason BT (the UK equivalent of “Ma Bell”) would want to commission its supplier Pressac to make an efficient (or durable) high-performance BT ADSL/SDSL/VDSL splitter/filter.
Because (in terms of business) British Telecom traditionally makes money from charging for the use of its phone lines...

Re: ECU's, interfaces and baud rates
The point to remember is your car once worked – it now either is not working because something is worn out and needs to be replaced OR something has abruptly broken and needs to be repaired or replaced – think about that - they are not the same failure modes – wear is generally more expensive to fix than an abrupt breakage or failure – so did the hydrocarbons gradually creep up over the years or was it suddenly through the roof one year of the emissions test?
It is easy to make most perfectly "healthy"...Last edited by UHU; 03-06-2017, 03:16 PM.

Re: 2008 MacPro Memory Card Bad Cap
First step would be to change all the capacitors on the motherboard I would use Panasonic SEPC range for what is shown in your photos - your photo shows makings that should mean 270uF 16Volt.
Panasonic SEPC of today is a newer generation than the Sanyo OS-Cons in your photo - Panasonic IIRC bought the OS-Con division of Sanyo and refined the chemistry involved - have recapped various motherboards (a couple were 10 years old) that had the original mix of electrolytics, Fujitsu polymers and Panasonic SEPC's all on the one board -...

Re: Looking for a better telephone line transformer
Thank you for your reply - I no longer physically have access to the older (quiet) Vocaliser so cannot take a photo to compare but I have got this online manual (my paper manual is only a grainy black and white photo) which shows a clear photo showing the old ETAL P1200 transformer PCB version Vocaliser.
Besides the transformer I can see three components of the four pin chip type on the old photo on the manual they are WHITE on the newer noisier version I have they are BLACK - manufacturers generally try to...Last edited by UHU; 03-01-2017, 02:21 PM.

Re: ECU's, interfaces and baud rates
Love the Panasonic Toughbook - a Toughbook in use always implies that its owner means business!
TBI - Throttle Body Injection?
Have you solved the emission problems? Was it HC (Hydrocarbons) too high or CO (Carbon Monoxide) too high?
Have you cleaned all the earth points?
Engine to chassis, Battery to chassis, there are normally a couple of wiring loom earths all over cars and under dashboards (those often earth the ECU) - you would need a wiring schematic for the car they are all listed...Last edited by UHU; 03-01-2017, 09:21 AM.

Looking for a better telephone line transformer
Looking for a better telephone line transformer.
Currently ETAL P5100 transformer is fitted while an older version of the same device had an ETAL P1200 which was fully enclosed and potted(?) by “vacuum impregnation” process (according to ETAL website).
There is an electrical buzzing audible via the earpiece of the “programming” telephone that connects to the device (Pyronix Vocalizer alarm system speech dialler) connection is via the UK BT telephone socket mounted directly on the PCB (top right corner – white in colour) – the “programming”...

Re: What do these capacitor markings mean - in your opinion
Thank you for all your inputs and advice - yes, all the capacitor values / suggestions were correct - all the capacitors have been replaced - as suggested it was simpler, cheaper and better to use regular THT caps (and empty the surplus parts bin at the same time) in many places.
The Vocaliser is back up and running in fact the performance is better than new! Seizes the phone line, picks up the phone and dials out very quickly and reacts to the acknowledgement (DTMF keys being pressed by recipient of the...Last edited by UHU; 02-27-2017, 03:26 PM.

Re: Broadband Filter ADSL Nation Capacitor Upgrade Values
What was known as SDSL is now also known as VDSL and there is now an even newer design of central DSL splitter like this one https://www.run-it-direct.co.uk/mk4btopenreachvdslsocket.htmlRe: Broadband Filter ADSL Nation Cap...ket.html...

Re: What do these capacitor markings mean - in your opinion
I agree - and having measured the dimensions of the capacitors are: -
4.7 - 4.0mm by 5mm Tall (PCB to top)
100 - 6.2 by 5 Tall
10 - 4.0 by 5 Tall
22 - 5.0 by 5 Tall
1 - 4.0 by 5 Tall
So, the size also points towards 4.7uF which I will have to choose and order - I can't think of anything else it might be other than a capacitor - you are right it is different to the rest of the capacitors - wonder if it was a factory rework or was it a design change?
As this is...

Re: Draytek Vigor 2760n
How did you check the capacitors on the board - what test equipment did you use? Did you test the capacitors out of circuit?
Used to have a coupe of Draytek's - overheating? All mine seemed to be hot enough to broil a steak - I am almost suspicious that your Draytek is running cool! But of course it could be running cool because it wont complete booting so no CPU load to generate heat OR a component (capacitor?) has failed and stopped operation of a portion of the router - or the CPU is not supplying enough voltage so the under-volted...

What do these capacitor markings mean - in your opinion
Hello - could you help me identify what the markings on this strangely marked capacitor mean - I think the markings read:-
"4.7"
"25s"
"B47"
here is a photo with an arrow pointing to the item in question
The rest of the capacitors I think are:-
"7d 100 16V" = 100uF 16Volts
"7f 10 16v" = 10uF 16Volts
"5c 22 16v" = 22uF 16Volts
"6e 1 50v" = 1uF 50Volts
Any ideas who made these - Lelon?

Re: Looking for Bi-Polar 1.8uF 250Volt & 1uF 100Volt
Interesting - that link is for a "Panasonic 1.8μF Polyester Capacitor (PET) 630 V dc ±10% series ECQE" (Panasonic P/N ECQ-E6185KF)
In terms of performance is it a good idea to change capacitor chemistry from electrolytic to Polyester/Solid?
Am thinking about the implications of this
http://analogrules.com/capacitors.html
I now realise the 1.8uF Capacitor is the ring capacitor for the telephones.
Moving away...
