Got it. Off to experiment. Thanks....

  • Re: how do i test a schottky diode rectifier?

That part I do understand. I am just wondering how this device would be expected to react/perform in-circuit if I am seeing Vf's in this range doing a DMM diode test. Just how low of a Vf should one expect to see for a "low-Vf" Schottky bridge device during a DMM diode test? As you can tell - I have not had much experience dealing with these devices so be gentle !

  • Re: how do i test a schottky diode rectifier?

I have a similar issue with a Schottky bridge that I am trying to definitively determine if it is good or bad hopefully without sending off for a replacement/substitute for comparison. It is a D20XBS6 60V @ 20A thin in-line package unit. I am getting voltage drops in the range of .119 -.122. Attached data sheet shows Vf 0.63V max @ IF of 10A. The .119 that I am getting with a Fluke 73-III on diode test sounds a tad low. Not quite certain how to decipher readings I am getting on ohms function but they are very close to Matt's readings...

  • Re: Replacement for SAMWAH WL-Series 100uf 450V

Recap complete. Set is working like new.... possibly better than when new . Amazing what a few "good" caps and a new DMD chip can do to improve image quality on this old DLP!

  • NEED HELP .047uf 400V POL MTL FILM

I am working on a Yamaha RX-Z7 and need some help in identifying a suitable replacement cap. Info from parts list:

    C4 - WJ361200 - C.POL.MTL - 0.047uF 400V

I have attached a portion of the power supply schematic that shows its circuit location/use as well as a shot of the actual cap. Not sure why I am having trouble identifying a good replacement. Higher voltage would be okay as long as it is physically close in size. Current device is approximately 11mm x 10mm x 4.5mm @ 10mm spacing. Any ideas?...

  • Re: How bad does a bad cap look?

Amazing just how much of a difference this old set looks with a full re-cap and DMD chip replacement! Bad (and sometimes, marginal ones) caps DO make a difference!...

Wow, that board looks a bit rough! Used to see a lot of pcb's and components looking like that when I was repairing in Hawaii. That salt air gets to everything after a while....

Looks like the Lelon is in "Unobtainous" status so I am going with a Rubycon 450TXW100MEFC18X35. Physical size (can make it work), specs (ripple @ 105c/100kHz = 1.11A) should meet the need. Will report back in case anyone is interested! Will provide list of all caps I used to rework these two boards if everything performs as expected. Thanks....

Just ran across this device on Mouser. Never used this brand before but this might work. What do you think? That is if I can find it in stock!!...

Thanks. I had the same thoughts about the ripple specs but also have concerns about using something with a lower rating and not fully understanding the circuit. Guess I will have to take a closer look at the circuit design/layout and see if I can determine if there is some wiggle room in the SAMWAH spec. I have found some of SAMWAH's specs/dims to differ from what is on the datasheets so I would not be surprised if either of the alternatives you sourced would work just fine. I have a "bit" of room to play...

  • Replacement for SAMWAH WL-Series 100uf 450V

I am looking for a replacement cap:

    SAMWAH
    100uf
    450V
    - 40 - 105c
    WL-Series (Extremely Low Impedance)
    16x40 @ 5mm spacing
    1100-1200 ma

This cap is from a Samsung BP96-01726B Sub Power Supply board in a 61A750 DLP. I have searched Mouser and DigiKey for suitable replacements compared to WL datasheet specs but no joy. The applicable SAMWAH datasheet does not give any actual impedance specs at this voltage so I am thinking it is not critical ?? Anyone have any experience with this cap and better yet a replacement on this board...

    Hi Bud,
I am rather new to this great site and hope I am not breaking any rules. I read through all of the "read first" information, so I hope I didn't miss anything that said "You Better Not Do This....". I have a Sammy DLP (61A750) that I am getting ready to recap the Main and Sub Power Supplies. The caps are all, with maybe one exception, SAMWAH branded. I have found SAMWAH data sheets for each series but I am unsure of proper crosses/alternates. Since I found so many bad/marginal caps, I plan to do all the electro's. I have prepared a matrix with all pertinent data...

  • Re: How bad does a bad cap look?

I too feel your pain. After literally years of procrastination, I finally got serious about opening up my Sammy 61A750 DLP to do some long overdue cleaning and repair its increasingly noticeable "white dot" problem. This TV has VERY HIGH usage so in the back of my mind I "knew" there would be other (cap) issues once I got inside. Not only did I find numerous bulging PS caps (and I mean BULGING), I found one totally open (560 uf/200wv) and many more with bad ESR and/or capacitance levels. Needless-to-say, they are all now sitting...

  • Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

Thanks for the add to the group! I am a retired submarine force naval officer who has dabbled in electronics since the early 70's. I try to keep myself pretty current with today's tech but truthfully I still love the old stuff. Nothing like high plate voltages and 2nd anode shocks to get the blood flowing . I came aboard to get some help finding capacitor substitutes but I am hoping I can also contribute to the discussion and lend a hand when and where needed. Once again, thanks for letting me in !
