Hi,
So after my Samsung TV blew up and fixing it with components from the UK it blew up once again. This time I thought I would rather get a new TV then trying to fix it again and why not save a £100 by buying from the UK over Amazon.
However, I don't seem to be able to switch the TV to my home country and that's an issue when it comes to tuning it. Isn't it possible to change country on a Panasonic TV? Perhaps through a service menu? I thought it would be as simple as on a Samsung TV, but it doesn't seem to be

Re: Samsung PS51D8005 no picture
Thanks for the pointers vinceroger69. For now I've decided to buy a new TV. However, I'll keep the old one for when I move from my apartment to a new house. Then I'll have more room to investigate

Re: Samsung PS51D8005 no picture
yeah, I did the check and they all match the sticker except from +/-0.5 V. Saw a youtube clip where they said that was fine, so thought it wouldn't cause any problems.

Re: Samsung PS51D8005 no picture
So after a few days of use my Y-sus blew up replaced it and had a working TV for 1-2 months. Then it just turned off one night all of a sudden. Completely dead I suspect that the main board is dead once again, but haven't investigated it further.
Is it normal that boards die like this after replacement?

Re: Samsung PS42A416C1D No Picture
Had the same issue on my Samsung plasma after a capacitor blew up and several other components also died. Replaced the Y-sus/Y-main for around £30 with shipping and now it seems to work again.

Re: Help! Cap on Y-sustain went poof after main board swap
So I've looked through a couple of videos explaining how to change the Y-sus and decided to give it a go.
After the swap the TV seems to work perfectly again. I've checked all the voltage testpoints (Vs, Va, Ve and Vsc) and they are all pretty much in line with the label on the back, only off by max 0.5 volts, which seems to be decent in the videos I've seen.
So hopefully it will now keep working for more than 24 hours.
If any of you have suggestions to what I should check...

Re: Help! Cap on Y-sustain went poof after main board swap
Received my Y-sus board today. Just checked the y-buffer board by doing this test: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51SZsfH60EY
There wasn't any indication of shortages of the IC's when checking between the Y-sus outputs and the Y-buffer outputs. Are there any additional tests, that I should do?
If not, I'll swap the Y-sus board and then check if Vs, Va, Ve and Vsc all match the sticker on the back of the TV. Are there any additional tests I should do to ensure, that my TV doesn't blow...

Re: Help! Cap on Y-sustain went poof after main board swap
Hi Flocko,
Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I saw your post, but thought I would take a chance with the bad cap at first, which some suggested might work. And you're right, the board itself shouldn't be that expensive. I'll start looking for a replacement.

Re: Help! Cap on Y-sustain went poof after main board swap
Hi again!
I changed the blown cap with a new one, that can manage 2000 V instead of the 630 V of the blow cap. Still no image
LED on logic board blinks on for 5 sec and off for 2 sec (service manual says this indicates DRV_RESET what ever that is?). Saw the same thing happen one time when I disconnected the Y-sus from the SMPS, so my guess is that the fault is still on the Y-sus board.
Should I also change the cap running in parallel with the blown cap even though no physical...

Re: Help! Cap on Y-sustain went poof after main board swap
Another thing, my local electronics dealer doesn't seem to have 630V 2.2nF polyester caps. Could I use the following in stead? https://www.elextra.dk/main.aspx?page=article&artno=H11957&q=2%2C2%20nfRe: Help! Cap on Y-sustain went poof...2C2%20nf

Re: Help! Cap on Y-sustain went poof after main board swap
Thanks for all the feedback! Unfortunately I didn't manage to get the caps I needed to day, but hopefully I'll get them on Monday.
Couldn't find any other bad caps on the board, so hopefully it's just the one. However, I'll replace both caps in parallel.
Here are some more pics of the y-sus board. Borrowed a really bad soldering iron, so had difficulties removing the busted cap hence the awful looking pin hole....

Help! Cap on Y-sustain went poof after main board swap
Hi everyone!
Really need your help on this one. Yesterday I swapped a faulty main board on my Samsung PS51D8005 plasma TV for another main board stripped from a TV of the same model with a broken panel. You can read more about this fix in this thread: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=44960
Everything went smoothly and my TV was working perfectly for 24 hours. Then when watching TV tonight I all of a sudden hear a giant POP! and the TV goes black with the audio still running. Of course I suspected a busted capacitor and when I opened it up,...

Re: New Members - please post your introductions here
Hi,
32 year old electronics engineer from Denmark here. My five year old Plasma screen went dead a couple of weeks ago (during the Olympics, Bummer! ). I haven't really gotten my fingers dirty with electronics since a got my masters degree back in 2009, so I really needed some information on how to go about fixing my plasma.
Fortunately I found all the information I needed on this forum and on Youtube, so now I have a fully functioning Plasma screen again and saved a lot of money by doing it myself.

Re: Samsung PS51D8005 no picture
Hi!
Just wanted to give an update. I've now installed a new main board and my TV is up and running again
Turned out that a yellow/brownish area behind the processor isn't an indicator of a burned out main board. Got a used main board from a TV with a broken panel, and the main board looked exactly the same.
So I no idea what happened to my main board, but that doesn't really matter Fixed a £1000 TV for only £40, couldn't be happier!
Thanks for all the good advice on this website....

Re: Samsung plasma pn50b550t2f power on/off
Hi again bsickler,
As I'm not an expert in this matter, I can't say for certain, that it's PS issue, but at least the issue is still there, when you bypass the main board. So unless you are unlucky and have several issues with your TV, I would assume that the issue is the PS.
I've stumbled upon a lot of samsung click click PS videos on youtube (here fx: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=quk9u7NoVbw) and it's usually caused by bad caps.
Bad capacitors are not always bulged up, some of them you...
