Re: Sylvania LC420SS8 shutting down on protect(?)
Still propped up in my closet, current guess is inverters, but I'm not of a mind to go throwing a $70 set of inverters in it....

Re: Sylvania LC420SS8 shutting down on protect(?)
I found another Funai-built set on a similar chassis: The slow-blink power LED is normal during power-on. The fast-blink happens when it would go solid, and I'm thinking it's a mainboard fault, since it happens when the other set goes to select the input. Oh well. Any thoughts on a good place to sell the panel? (I have no idea how to ship a 42" panel, though.)...

Re: Sylvania LC420SS8 shutting down on protect(?)
I'm back to thinking regulation; I accidentally bumped my thumb against the tab of the AL+3.3v regulator on the power board, and it was alarmingly hot. (IC220). Any thoughts on if this could be a regulation issue? The input feeding the 3.3v regulator was almost 20% high. Most of the voltages are right on the edge of being 10% out of spec, some are more....

Re: Sylvania LC420SS8 shutting down on protect(?)
Or one of the inputs to it does. Something coming across the power board from CN202 could be forcing it down; disconnecting CN202 (which only carries audio and a couple control signals) changes the behavior - the only thing so far that has! The unit blinks 3 times and then promptly shuts down instead of sitting there for 10 seconds blinking and trying to start up. For as lovely as this service manual is, a list of blink codes would help me out.
Edit: Durp, bet it's PROTECT3.
Edit edit: PROTECT6, I can't read. That...Last edited by iKitsune; 11-30-2012, 04:59 PM.

Re: Sylvania LC420SS8 shutting down on protect(?)
Yeah it's still flashing, but it's a constant fast flash, not a code. I don't see codes either, and that's why I feel like I'm missing something obvious. Right now my thought is one of the control ICs on the mainboard, sadly. The voltages coming off the power section all look good.
Opinion time: If it is the mainboard (and assume I'm not set up to do PQFP or BGA rework), would this set be worth putting an eBay / ShopJimmy mainboard in, or should I just haunt Craigslist and look for one someone smashed the...

Re: Sylvania LC420SS8 shutting down on protect(?)
Ugh, my laptop battery runs out at the worst time, sorry for the long delay on response. My remark about the diode removal wasn't that I expected it to fix it, I'm just documenting *everything* I do to this unit.
I comprehensively rechecked all the voltages I'd measured yesterday.
