Vizio V585-H11 No Image Puzzle
When plugged in, Vizio V585-H11 powers up, the standby light flashes 18 times, but there is simply no image on the screen. I can see a glow from the backlights, and the sound works. Tearing in to it, all voltages coming out of the Power Supply appear reasonable. I suspect a bad panel, so I disconnect one of the two wide ribbon cables between the T-Con board and the panel. Now the TV starts up fine without the 18 flashes, and with a good image on 1/2 of the screen. If I switch to the other ribbon cable, the TV again starts up fine, but now with a good image on the other 1/2 of the screen. Still...

Re: LG 47LB650V LED strip changing - question

Clip removal begins around 7:30. Basically you need to lift one end and then slide. Sounds like yours are embrittled by heat and time (Don't run the backlights at 100%!). May have to ask on forum if anyone has a bunch of spares that they can send you.Re: LG 47LB650V LED strip changing -...u need to lift

Re: Samsung UE49MU6120K works then off/lines/flickers
First step after opening a TV: Check that all screws that attach all of the circuit boards are tight. In your case, would recommend removing the main board and cleaning the mounting pedestals on the chassis with fine steel wool and cleaning around the screw holes in the circuit board with a pencil eraser. Then reinstall main board with screws tight. This solved a similar problem with a Samsung for me.

Re: Samsung UN65F6400 dims towards the top
Don't waste your time replacing individual LEDs (unless this is just to make sure that the TV is going to work as you said). More will just keep burning out. Replace the entire set with new. Shopjimmy has them in stock.Last edited by Charleyd; 05-11-2019, 07:52 AM.

Re: LG 50UH5500-UA - No picture
I've had two of these same LG's. Identical symptoms. No image with flashlight. One LED failed open. Unless you are fixing the TV for yourself, I recommend replacing the full set of backlights with NEW. 10% savings at shopjimmy through the end of April. And reduce backlight setting!

Re: Partially repaired Vizio E701-A3, need help!
I had a slightly similar scenario. After I replaced the transistor and removed the side tabs, I had one half of the screen working good (the side with the side tabs still connected) but the other half messed-up sort-of like yours. A new T-Con corrected the the situation. (I bought a T-Con identified as "New".) You should be able to find a T-Con for $15-20 on eBay.

Re: Vizio M70-C3 Dark Spots
Looks like backlights. I had one of these that had gotten hit by lightening. Minor damage to Power Supply that cost $8 to fix, but then 1/3 of the backlights were out. Not fun. A good test video can be found on YouTube by searching for "Monitor Color Test".

Re: VIZIO 60" E60-C3 Bad Single LED In Each Strip
I see on shopjimmy's webpage for the LEDs "ETA 1/24". Maybe the Sad Face is a mistake.
You might contact them and see if they are getting a new supply. They routinely buy LED sets in big batches. The E60-C3 is really bad for burning out LEDS (I have repaired several of these Vizios). You should definitely try to get a New set.

Vizio M65-C1 intermittent half screen outage
I have a Vizio M65-C1 that intermittently loses the video on half of the screen (see pic). When first turned on, the TV works fine, but after a while the right half of the screen becomes a flickering, jumbled mess of lines. After a bit the TV usually restarts and works fine for a bit longer. I'm wondering whether anyone can tell me if the problem is the Main Board or the T-Con (?). A clue is that the main board heat sink becomes very, very hot. The two large ICs on the T-Con get pretty warm, but not alarmingly so. Thanks....

Re: Vizio D58u-D3 failing leds, seeking strips or leds
I have actually seen YouTube videos showing people using heat. The glue holding the tabs on will soften with heat. Look here starting at around 55 seconds:

Re: Vizio D58u-D3 failing leds, seeking strips or leds
Peel them off. And if something gets left behind, I would turn on the TV before trying anything aggressive to remove the remnants. (Also, I made a post that went to the previous page (Page 2) of this thread. You need to remove all 8 of them.)Last edited by Charleyd; 01-10-2019, 03:32 PM.

Re: Vizio D58u-D3 failing leds, seeking strips or leds
The control and power for the side gate drivers comes from the T-Con, and then is fed through the bottom edge boards to the outer-edge of the last bottom flex connector at each corner and then into the panel. Then through the panel itself up to the side tabs.

Re: Vizio D58u-D3 failing leds, seeking strips or leds
The side tabs work in a bucket-brigade fashion. The T-Con sends a Start signal to the first (top) one to start, and when it finishes driving its corresponding 1/8th of the screen, the IC in the first tab sends a trigger to the second one to start, and so-on. So they must all be good or all be removed.

Re: Vizio D58u-D3 failing leds, seeking strips or leds
Yes I (and others) have physically removed tabs on one side of a TV panel and the TV worked essentially good-as-new. I expect that you are about to save your TV. (And on the good side, make sure that the black protectors are in good shape and the tabs are tucked behind them. Be gentle with the tabs.)Last edited by Charleyd; 01-10-2019, 02:14 PM.

Re: Vizio D58u-D3 failing leds, seeking strips or leds
In simple terms, just peel them off. You would like to get them completely off. For me, it seems that if I just peel from the top-down or bottom-up, the last little corner tears off and stays on the panel. This may or may not cause a problem. What I do is tear in one direction but only peeling up about half of the tab. Then I start at the other end and remove the tab completely.
budwich: This TV does not have side boards.Last edited by Charleyd; 01-10-2019, 02:18 PM.

Re: Vizio D58u-D3 failing leds, seeking strips or leds
[Regarding your comment that there is still a darkening fade occurring even past center, it is not the case that the left half of the screen is only connected to the left side drivers and the right half is only connected to the right. In the vertical direction this is the case, but the connections in the panel that run horizontally between the drivers and the LCDs themselves go all the way across, tying the left and right sides together. That is how, as I said earlier, that, in your TV, the bad side is loading down the good...

Re: Vizio D58u-D3 failing leds, seeking strips or leds
The black protectors can be pealed off. This would make it easier and safer to play with the tabs. Have you tried examining the tabs for cracks with some magnification? You could also re-connect the T-Con ribbon and feel for any of the little ICs bonded in the middle of the side tabs to see if any are getting hot.
