Re: Electron Kinetics Eagle 2C amplifier problem
Thanks, but not sure how I could draw up these traces for the schematics. Seems to be a little out of my noob hands..LOL...

Re: Electron Kinetics Eagle 2C amplifier problem
OK, I see. So would I have to de-solder these components to check for resistance, or can I leave them mounted to the pcb and check resistance?...

Re: Electron Kinetics Eagle 2C amplifier problem
Would it be ok to take the pcb off from the amp chassis and do some resistance comparisons? I mean is this a good way to find faulty components without worrying about if I may accidently touch some live/hot and zap me or something else?

Re: Electron Kinetics Eagle 2C amplifier problem
I measured that transistor (2SC2168) from B to E and got 1.292 M ohms..Does this seem bad?Last edited by Gammaray; 09-12-2018, 03:01 AM.

Re: Electron Kinetics Eagle 2C amplifier problem
OK, I will do that and post the resistance. Should I discharge the caps before I take a measurement of the transistor's resistance?
Thanks!...

Re: Electron Kinetics Eagle 2C amplifier problem
Sorry for the lengthy thread! Here are the voltages from the transistors I measured from each side:
(CHANNEL A) Top Transistors
#1 Sanken (2SC2774) B=.631 DCV/ C=48.0 DCV/ E=.018 DCV
#2 Sanken (C2168) B=1.22 DCV/ C=47.7 DCV/ E=.627 DCV
#3 Sanken (2SC2774) B=.626 DCV/ C=48.0 DCV/ E=.017 DCV
#4 Sanken (A958) B=46.4 DCV/ C=1.22 DCV/ E=47.3 DCV
(CHANNEL A) Bottom Transistors
#1(2SA1170) B= .603 DCV/ C= -46.55 DCV/ E= -.012 DCV
#2(A958)...

Re: Electron Kinetics Eagle 2C amplifier problem
It appears to be channel (B) that is bad. I was told that the transistor is not on, and from the voltage levels it looks like it's shorted B/E,
#5(2SC2168) B= -44.8 DCV/ C= -2.27DCV/ E= -44.8 DCV
also channel B has -21V dc at the speaker output, which should be zero volts.

Re: Electron Kinetics Eagle 2C amplifier problem
Looks like this thread has gone to crap..lol..Guess I'll just replace everything on the board!
I imagine that transformer and the larger gauge wires will last another 20 years or so?
Thanks again to budm, petehall347, and vinceroger69 for trying to help out!
Cheers!

Re: Electron Kinetics Eagle 2C amplifier problem
Now I am wondering after all the measurements and instructions I have followed, Can anyone tell me what I should do next? I mean is there any indication from all the measurements thus far as being OK?
It seems like to me that after I had measured the speaker outputs, that they were no where near close. And also those (2) big caps appear to also have an issue with one as far as one not discharging after I grounded a screw driver across the terminals!

Re: Electron Kinetics Eagle 2C amplifier problem
Sorry, but you lost me there? I'm not sure what you are speaking about. Are you saying that I should adjust the blue trimmer pots and check the voltage on the large transistors? If so, I can do that fairly easy with measuring the top transistors marked 2SC2774, but will be more difficult measuring the big transistors located on the bottom....

Re: Electron Kinetics Eagle 2C amplifier problem
OK, I measured the diodes by that trimmer pot. Here are the voltages for side (A)
From left to right: .488DCV, .640VDC, .633VDC, .524VDC
Side (B) From left to right: .480DCV, .640VDC, .633VDC, .516DCV
P.S. I don't have a schematic, so not sure what to do now?Last edited by Gammaray; 09-05-2018, 06:34 PM.

Re: Electron Kinetics Eagle 2C amplifier problem
Hi Bud! I did check the DCV at the speaker terminals and posted it here earlier in post #28. You may have just overlooked it. No problem sir. Here are the measurements:
Speaker Outputs:
Channel (A)= .001 DCV
Channel (B)= -21.8 DCV and then starts to drop in voltage.
Thanks again Bud. I really appreciate your kindness and knowledge for wanting to help us noobs out!!! Cheers!...

Re: Electron Kinetics Eagle 2C amplifier problem
Hi Pete! Please pardon my lack of knowledge, but I am unsure which ones around the blue trimmer pots would be the diodes? It looks like all resistors to me. Looking at the blue colored trimmer pot on the photo, there are (2) components to the left side that appear to be resistors, but not sure. Also, to the right side, there are (3) components that also appear to be resistors? Sorry to ask this, but I'm a little weary about placing the DMM probes on something I shouldn't. Just don't want any big zaps..LOL Thanks a...

Both diodes measured at around .740 DCV...

Re: Electron Kinetics Eagle 2C amplifier problem
OK, Thanks! Should I set the negative probe (DMM) to the green wires as I did for testing the transistors? If so, I can just use the positive probe to place on the diodes to test the voltages. One last question: Does it matter what side of the diodes I check? I'm thinking the anode side, but just want to be certain! Thanks again!...

OK, but noob question, should I measure these diodes with or without the main power on? Thanks!...

Re: Electron Kinetics Eagle 2C amplifier problem
OK, I'll try that..Thanks!!!
BTW, what do you think with these voltages I have taken for the transistors? Do they seem to be OK, or should I replace any? Not sure what to do at this point. I know that you mentioned changing out the OP-AMPS. I just want to order all of the components in one order if possible. I will also order that resistor for the Sony TV..lol Thanks again Bud!!!

Re: Electron Kinetics Eagle 2C amplifier problem
I just finished measuring the bottom transistors! I also attached 2 photos showing the numbered transistors marked in red from each side. Here are the voltages I have measured:
#1(2SA1170) B= .603 DCV/ C= -46.55 DCV/ E= -.012 DCV
#2(A958) B= -1.22 DCV/ C= -46.33 DCV/ E= -.600 DCV
#3(2SA1170) B= -.593 DCV/ C= -47.3 DCV/ E= -.002 DCV
#4(2SC2168 ???) B= -44.7 DCV/ C= -1.20 DCV/ E= -44.8 DCV
#5(2SC2168???) B= -44.8 DCV/ C= -2.27 DCV/ E= -44.8 DCV
#6(2SA1170) B= -1.15 DCV/ C= -45.9 DCV/...Last edited by Gammaray; 09-03-2018, 10:34 AM.

Re: Electron Kinetics Eagle 2C amplifier problem
OK guys Thanks! I have some 1/4 and 1/2 watt resistors, but not sure if I were to parallel them to get a higher wattage and also what ohm value should I use?
I saw a video on someone using an incandescent bulb to drain a larger cap, but it seems to still pop and damages the filament. I also see that they use neon bulbs, but not sure how well that works.
I will try and get the rest of those measurements for the bottom section of those transistors. I just need to be extra careful not to accidently touch those...
