  • Panasonic SC/YSUS Board diagnostic

    Hi guys,

I have recently gotten a plasma TV with a shorted SC board. Someone had been working on this before i got the set. Solder work can be seen in some of the mosfets, a gate driver and a couple of other components, so I'm not going to be replacing things until I know where the problem lies. Whoever worked on it before left a pretty bad job behind.

I coulndt find a technical information online explaining what exactly is the SC/YSUS board function. A similar question placed earlier on this forum [URL="https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=13170"]Y...

  • YSUS board repair - Panasonic TV

    Hi guys,

I have recently gotten a plasma TV with a shorted SC board. Someone had been working on this before. They removed some of the mosfets, a gate driver and a couple of other components, so I'm not going to be replacing mosfets until I know there's nothing wrong with it.

  • Re: Samsung UE32F5000 no Backlight

Assmuming a properly designed driver, (and I assumed this is one as the whole string failed) one can simply short a failed LED. The driver will keep the string current constant, so it doesnt matter if it sees 51 or 49.

And yes, as other poster sugested, using only half of the power is a good thing, but it serves its purpose better on the newer 'flicker free' tv's whose LED's are fed with a DC current.

The older models use PWM, so the devices are always lit at full power, just the duration of which (time on versus time...

Also forgot.... It is normal for the HV capacitor voltage to oscilate as much as +/-15V, thats the Power factor correcting IC regulating to keep the input current sinosoidal (If the supply didnt had PFC you would see rectifid mains, at about 320-360V or half of that for 115V countries)

This is normal and not a fault.

Generally a bad 24V supply will affect the backlight only, not the logic.

On your case it might be caused by a high ESR on capacitors, but as said earlier, this should not stop the main board and LCD panel from turning on.

    Hi Guys,

    Nice forum!

Looking for some more information on plasma TV's.

I used to repare CRT's many years ago, when the thing was actually profittable. Nowadays little things can be fixed in modern TV's, which is sad.

Plasmas, however, despite not very serviceable (still better than LCD's, but somewhat less reliable too) dont give much option on this. If you want it, fix it!

Now when will OLED finally become affordable for us mere mortals
