Sorry PlainBill - I have just logged on to tell you guys great news....it's fixed!:Cheers everyone! As I write it's on my 'test' bench, and my fingers are crossed.

After the heady exercise of digesting some of the info in this thread I resigned myself to the fact that the job was becoming beyond my few skills just yet. So I put a call in to an old friend who lives a few miles from me. Told him everything we have tried here. His speciality is Sony playstation and wii, with...

Ahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa That's brilliant. It seems I must have been thinking in reverse. So, the readings I have got on that part, suggest that it is okay after all? Thankyou very much....

Having put fresh batteries in before the readings were taken I am confirming a reading of 1 on the left hand side of the display, for all 6readings made, whilst the setting of my meter was on 200.

Also, to double check the meter is working properly I touched the red and black leads together which gave me a reading of 00.4 I think that's accurate enough?

I am naturally curious so I changed the meter up to the 2k setting.
I redid the same six tests. This may seem...

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! Whoops sorry again

While I hope you enjoyed your cricket...

I have checked voltage on both sides of LS3 (but can't find an L53 anywhere...I think that's the one you mean?) Er..well I hope so!

To be sure, it looks like a copper coloured coiled spring, sitting vertically between the edge of the board and C33. Anyway, hoping this is the part you mean and the Voltage is 8.9Volts.

I Replaced fuse and YES voltage returns...

OWZAAAAAAAAAAT! Sorry matey flip. It's not meant to be stressful for either of us.

I will do exactly as you say - when I know exactly what that is.

I am very obedient when under instruction, but so that I do not mess up - I must ask to inform myself - how not to. It might come as second nature to you all this technical stuff, but Imalearner is what I am

Cricket I am told is a gentleman's game -is it?

In front of me is a board...

I must have been rushing!!! Sorry.

What I meant is, I had 'titled' the photograph wrongly.....that's all.

I called part No J35, J32 by mistake.

Any help I can get I am very grateful for - likewise, any help I can give, even if it's just a few photographs -correctly titled - that may help others - must be right.

So, nothing else has changed or submitted in error.

I just checked the reading again between J35 and D32...

G'morning all!

Picture reposted as I noticed I had labelled the other one incorrectly.

Measured 3.5V at start, climbing to 8.9V over 90 Seconds?

Befuddled I sit still, in awe, of everything I know- I don't know

Sheeeessshhhhh! Do I need a magnifier or what? Had a looksie at component Z31 in close up, and depending on which angle the light hits it, it is possible that it has cracked solder on one side?

See what you think.

Blast and damn it I have to go out, Family calling - back onto this asap - prob, tomorrow.

Cheers for now.

This bit I can do easily PlainBill. I searched a bit myself for this and found that most results, with my model number, show up in Google - in every other language under the sun, except the one I can understand.

Hope this helps, photos as requested.

.....lets try something simple, I like that idea alot.

I have removed fused, (not shown in photograph) but because I am wary of screwing it up, please clarify, should I be putting the red probe on D32 ON the banded end? I thought that this was a 'negative' terminal, as it has the strip on it, or doesn't it matter which end I put it on?

So is my photograph for this test correct, or even relevant, please? I have removed fuse.

Okay, so my local stockist is 6 miles away, and transport is an issue for me right now and although I could order online for possible delivery for Tuesday next week, I might be mistaken but I have done this instead. ( I am also eager to learn and try)

I have 'found' two 16V 1000uF capacitors off a known-working pc motherboard. Anyways, I stripped them off and have tried them on this project. They seemed to come off easy enough and went back on okay too.

I have resoldered...

Good - I have a mission!

Well, er....I have to go and scrounge those replacement parts off a matey, or put them on order, whichever is the quicker.

And.... am I correct in saying that the replacements MUST be the exact same resistance value rating (in this case 6.3 Volts @ 1000 Microfarad) but can be the same or slightly higher voltage rating?

As for the D31, it looks to me like it is different from the D32, as the photograph shows a little information,...

Okay then.

Following instructions here (I'm flying blind ) with the black lead on that link J35, I have measured the DC volts on

J32 = No Reading

J33 = No reading

FS51 = 14.40V to 16.00V

On FS51 the lower reading is only when first powered on, say about 20 seconds, then it peaks at just below or at 16V

Hope this helps?

Thankyou for that confirmation.

Just refering to post 14 ...

"also the two caps near those should be checked and changed to see if they are the cause."

Should I be doing the same check on these as in post 4, as in, power the board - black lead to striped side of cap, red to the other - meter set to Volts AC?

Thanks

Thanks for that explanation Rtech - I will try to digest - Just to remind you though, I only removed one of those diodes - D32

Please confirm whether I should remove D31 from the board and test again, off board so to speak?

Thanks,

When I get to do this, should I return (or resolder ) D32 ( and D31 if I have to remove that) back to the board. I mean, should I solder one leg back on, and if so which one, or both?

Also, just curious, the reading that I have got - how do you know what's a 'good' or 'bad' reading on diodes please?

Ta!

D31 is reading 404 in circuit (the one with the gum squashed around it) and it is the one that I have not yet removed.

So, should I remove it, just to be sure, and test again?

Thankyou. Please don't mind me being so methodical (some might call it slow) but it's the only way it sinks in.

So, how my doing...and am I doing it right?

Photographs attached, and the diode tested is marked D79 SR360

Cheers
Imalearner

P.s. D31 is reading 404 in circuit ( and 1 when reverse tested - like the others) To I.D. it, I would have to remove it as it's squashed with what looks like chewing gum -something to keep it stable...

Here's the meter at my disposal - thanks for all flying lessons on how to use it properly - I'm wondering again ...should I be removing each component for testing? The reason I ask is because there seems to be quite some conflicting info about the net in general, some say complete removal, some say no need - but since I am asking here for some help - I want to 'do it right', your way?

Thanks

Wowee, I found U1 - that's a very small component to read - found my glasses - and now when I look on the back of the board it feels like I am on another planet.

The 6 pin component is very poorly marked. It appears to have a trademark - a capital getter G in a square.

Then from what I can make out, it looks like JP 35 (but the letter J is neither capitalised or lower case). It's very thinly scribed - and I am best guessing what the charcters actually are, considering...
