  • Re: KDL-32BX300/APS-252 blows fuses

Yep; both are bad. One was with a good fuse but would not show a power good LED or show any standby voltages. The replacement would blow fuses and not show a power good LED. After the fuse replacement (and this should simplify things) I had nothing but line voltage and the ground screw wire in the corner of the board for connections. It was bolted to the chassis. I plugged in the voltage and POW!.

  • KDL-32BX300/APS-252 blows fuses

I got a KDL-32BX300 Sony with a bad power supply. The fuse was not blown. No LED or anything showed up and the standby, etc pins on the supply tested a big fat goose egg.

I ordered another APS-252 power supply. It arrived yesterday. I installed it, plugged the TV into the outlet and POW! I ohmed the fuse and it was blown. I replaced the fuse and when inserting the line cord I saw a flash and heard POW!

I noticed the cord has a little kinking but I had tested it (so I thought) and the analog meter tested that it was giving the board power.

    If this...

  • Re: LG 32LV2500 power light blinks twice, goes dim, set won't power on

Here are the pics of the back end and the motherboard and power board on the 32LV2500. I haven't tested the 5v or so coming to the logic board as of yet. I disconnected the cable you saw to eliminate the board above (driver board?) being the issue.

My experience is basic when it comes to electronics. I work as a computer repair tech and have recapped many a motherboard in my day. However I have no ESR meter capability. The fuses on the power board ohm out good, however. The FAQ on fixing TV's as...

  • LG 32LV2500 power light blinks twice, goes dim, set won't power on

I have an LG 32LV2500 TV that won't turn on. When powered and the button is touched I get two slowly flashing red lights and a dim white light. I get no picture or sound. I replaced the power board (original board had no bad capacitors) just in case it were the issue. The replacement came from Ebay off what was said to be a busted screen tv. I got the same result.

Does the blink pattern sound familiar? Would it be a time waster to recap the board just on the off-chance (I read that LG's have bad caps).

I'll be sure I'm not alone at home when I test it live should I tangle with the 110v by mistake.

I also bought the caps off Ebay (the fake Chemicons). Little did I know.
I tested the 1117; it does not have a short and the voltage (may have it bass ackwards) is Pin 1; 2.89v; Pin 3; 5v.
There is a mild whine from the area of the power supply as if that is meaningful....

I get the Viewsonic logo for about five seconds then the backlight stays on with no pic or even a NO SIGNAL. I may test the regs or just replace them. I am leery of testing live gear though techs tend to do that on a regular basis.

  • failure point in Viewsonic VT2230-M

I have a VT2230-M TV that displays the Viewsonic bird bitmap then displays no image though you can see the backlit screen (no words readable even if up close) . I cannot turn it off by the power button, which stays lit all of the time. All but one of the caps (630UF 35v) was replaced on the power supply. I think it is the main board. As the main boards are as rare as hen's teeth I wonder if there is a common failure point I can remedy easily or do I just need to wait for a decently-priced board? The caps look good on the main board and they looked good on the power board. This has me puzzled....

  • Re: Dell 2005fpw; just the cable or is it more?

Would ground, I assume, be one of the other contacts in the connector socket for the ribbon?

If I am able to do the on-off shuffle with the ribbon cable reversed and a suitable switch circuit reinstated I might be looking at a bad power supply. I might try the resistor trick and see if the behavior is altered.

If the power supply is bad is there an issue endemic to the 2005's? I see no visible damage to the caps onboard but that isn't, of course, totally conclusive.

    Regardless I'll try the...

  • Dell 2005fpw; just the cable or is it more?

    Hi!
I found a dandy Dell 2005FPW with USB ports and a line-level video input. I would use the thing but it won't power on. I opened it up and found the power button ribbon cable 3/4 severed. I reversed the ends and got the power led to blink and illuminate a "1" on the front panel prior to its going blank.

Is it the cable or is there an issue with my power supply unit?

Question: I am about to resolder (touch up) the transformers, re-transistorize and re-MOSFET, and replace the fuse on my Q7T3's board. I'm going to skirt around doing the mod for improper circuit design. Am I courting disaster if I don't mod?

  • Re: Dell OptiPlex GX270 - multiple bad cap failures

Question; is there anybody who has seen SEVENTEEN swollen or busted caps on a GX270's motherboard. BTW one of mine had a 1500uf 6.5v cap swollen and oozing; it was the only one. I recapped it with a (thought to be) good cap and I got no video even with a good vid card. It posted fine otherwise. We have eight or so machines that have swollen caps and were short on PC's at the store so out came the soldering iron. Business will have to be VERY dead before we do recapping at the store. Just wondering if it's worth it to do ten (average...

  • Re: Dell 1703fps dark screen but power lt steady

Plainbill I agree. I can't have a monitor bigger than 17 in but if I can get hold of a monitor with the inverter in question, and for 10 or 20.00 (or less) I think it's money well spent. I lucked up on fixing two monitors with the power-off issue so I may have the big-head syndrome going.

Good luck on the cataract surgery. It is no fun losing your sight even for a moment or losing part of your sight.

mathog do like I plan to; wait until another monitor with a total power outage or a busted panel comes forth replete with a LI-2070 inverter inside. I found that the material is very hard and that was all it took to decide for me. Put out a saved search alert on Ebay for the following models you might solve your issues:

  • Dell 1703fps dark screen but power lt steady

    Hi!
I found a Dell 1703FPS which lights up but gives a darkened screen. I took it apart and it has a BN41-00296B powr supply and a BN44-00073 inverter board. Some say it is the inverter board (if not the backlight ccfl) and some say the inverter kicks off if the power supply gives it not enough juice. I saw no swollen caps on the boards though I smelled an electrolytic smell on the power board.

I hope to gosh it isn't the inverter or the transformers on the inverter. If so I guess I've got to fix my free monitor for 40.00 (or less; it depends). If anyone has had experiences...

  • 1504fp no power despite new MOSFET

    Hi!
I replaced a MOSFET on a Dell 1504FP power supply (everyone has one or knows someone who has a 1504FP that doesn't cut on . It still won't power on or indicate it is getting juice. I am about ready to recap but the caps aren't swollen or even bulging. I also noticed that the inverter board (board in upper corner w/ 2 two-pin plugs) is covered in some sort of coffee-like spooge. If the power supply still functions would the coffee-laden board still preclude a power-on LED?

Sadly I'm not privy to anything other than a digital voltmeter but I do have another 1504fp sans...
