@SLK001 -Yeah, I don't share your concern on what a picture will do but I took some anyway. I trust the picture of the diode will give you more information as to what it is. You know they don't have any numbers on them, as these don't either. As for "flavor of the day", I would also have to disagree as temperature size and ratings all play into it. As I will assume that you mean any led that is sourced from procurement, that I would agree with but they need to follow specifications and it's those specs...

@nomoresonys - thanks for the link and the help. This link provided a clue as to the chips by following the part numbers around. Still haven't found anything yet, but every little bit helps.

Thanks and if you can think of anything else that would be helpful please pass it along....

Yes, I already anticipated that and have worked out the details. Ok so I know it will be hard and I thank you for your suggestion but I want to attempt it. I did take a laser measurements and found 43 thousands height over the led to the lens. I then made a shim that sits on top of the let as the lens is placed. after it sets with optically clear super glue I remove the shim and it's good. My testing shows variance but no different then what the stock lens are showing from OEM production. I'm confident this will...

Yeah going new is 100 and only 10 bucks for loose smd. I have the right equipment for the job again just need to know what kind to get. The old ones that still work uses 770 mA at 30 volts so 23w or 4.3dc at 100mA at .43 Watts each with 7 each on a stick. So should I get 6v at 1 watt or what is best? Maybe 2 watt since they seem to blow more and just throttle them back to last longer? Idk that’s why I’m asking!

• Re: Vizio M3d550kde Black and White screen menu has color

ok so two sources and two hdmi were tested and all tested for color on the m3d failed to produce color. The same two sources and two hdmi were tested on a m552 and all four devices worked. I just finished the reflow of the chip

Success... the reflow worked color on all hdmi points.. go figure...

wait what? If I prove hdmi source to m55 using a laptop and then prove it to the m3d. You are saying that wont work? I don't agree with that logice but Ok, I'll swing with you on this, let me add a second hdmi source and a second hdmi cable. Kind of like a double blind test.. Ok.. give me a min.
BTW the first test was done and the cable and hdmi worked on the m55 but didn't work on the m3d.
One min for the next test.

• Re: Vizio M3d550kde Black and White screen menu has color

No it's not the source, that is proven good as in the HDMI cable. I did a factory reset to kill off any adjustments made in the past.. However I have not been able to get into the service menu. I've tried all the different patterns listed from Factory-reset.com with page link to here

so if the tv factory reset doesn't clear those setting then that might be the issue. But I would need the actually sequence to access that menu..

Yup that's the one in all her glory.. see pict also this is an modest replacement as I have the right tools for this job. I'm going to reflow it either way.. but I just tested all the pins and they are good so I don't think a reflow will work but either way it will prep the silver off the board and dilute it with some good ol' lead....

Hey Anthonystv, No, I'm sure. It's pure 8 scale ... black to grey unless you bring up the menu then it's color.. So, as for the latest, I put in a usb and displayed a picture and the color was perfect along with good menu's color. I fully suspect that vid input and ant and the rest all work too.. Just the hdmi is bad.. do you know of any know issues with the ic or where I can get a new chip?

YEP! confirmed, put in a usb with audio and pictures and boom picture is just as good as the menu screen. Now on that HDMI chip, can it be purchased, re-flowed? other? How can i source that chip?

Thanks for the help

• Vizio M3d550kde Black and White screen menu has color

So I have a Vizio M3d550kde around 2011 per date on a sub board. The tv works well except that the input on HDMI inputs 1-4 are all displayed in black and white - (other inputs not tested and unknown if they are good or not.) -where the menu selection and initiation screen show full fine color. I was thinking ok fine Main board replacement, but then I thought wait a minute, the menu display comes from the Main board. Any thoughts or suggestion for repair?
I did a factory reset just to make sure someone didn't change a setting that would allow this weird behavior from the tv.

ok cap is in.. but I still have some lines running vertically from top to bottom on 100% of the screen and spaced consistently ever centermeter. Any thoughts on what might be the cause?

zoom in on picture to see the lines very clearly...

wahhhh whhooo see the pictures..
The screen shot is with the origional t-con board that was able to withstand the short of the 10uF cap on the tab board. So this TV found in the alley was fixed for 50 cents and the help from this board. The cap is on order and will be here in a few days. Soldering was simple short is gone due to bad cap. Tv will be given to my Mr Know-it-all teenage son whom will continue to waste his life away on video games. Much thanks to all..

So I would like to know where you guys get your supplies for repair. let me...

What do you guys think Im at 30uF of a total of 35uF of capacitance. Do you think harm could be done with firing up the tv with that one cap off the board as I wait for my order to come in.. and BTW where do you guys get your supplies from. I use the usual ebay and amazon and would you mouser more but they have soooooo much there its kinda more difficult to find the exact part.. Let me know your thoughts..
Thanks again and I'll post some good picts by tonight..
