Re: LG W2252V-PF troubleshooting
Found a few pictures online which confirmed that the caps were all the same type originally (su'scons SG) and not the generic crap installed when previously repaired.
So i thought to start with those and after replacing the three 1000uf/16V the monitor is alive again. Will do a total recap soon but im waiting for my order as i dont have any 35V in stock and larger/50V won't fit physically.
For some data, the Teapos were ~820uF / 2.1 Ohm ESR on my meter and the replacement Panasonic FR's are ~980uF / 0.02 Ohm.
Hopefully...

LG W2252V-PF troubleshooting
My trusty old LG seems to have some issues powering on. Initially the power led did not turn on at all and neither did the backlights. I checked the fuse and i get proper voltage on the large caps.
After resoldering some joints which seemed to have a halo, the monitor light come on, makes the normal "start chime" and the backlights are on. There is no image or OSD though.
The monitor being 11 years old, had one simmilar issue 5 years ago where it would not power on at all and a few caps were replaced by a friend as they were bulging which brought it back to...Last edited by Viperel; 12-01-2019, 07:53 AM.

Re: Any harm in increasing capacitance?
@mariushm would increasing the very small 1uf/2.2uf @ 50V caps with 4.7uf have any beneficial effect inside a SMPSU (as they have really low lifetime in general) or would it be better to replace with stock values?

Electricity Saving Box
It's the first time i hear of these things online and i am really wondering what scams will they come up with next...
Basically it acts as a PFC, but does absolutely nothing useful

Re: Any harm in increasing capacitance?
Would increasing the capacitance in an ATX SMPS lead to any issues? I want to upgrade some 220uu/16v to 470uf and the 1000uf/16v to at least 1500uf. As ESR goes down with capacity i take it this could be beneficial (as long as it's not too low).
I want to know as the original caps (5 years old) are going bad as all voltages seem to drop almost 5% under load which is at the edge of the ATX quality standard, and was wondering if i could also "upgrade" them with higher values, as high quality PSUs are using 2200/3300uf...Last edited by Viperel; 11-10-2016, 06:39 AM.

Thank you, time to stock up on some resistor packs off ebay then

Carbon film vs metal film resistors
I had a few 5% 1/4W carbon film resistors blow up on me during my lifetime and i have always replaced them with the same type. Now i am wondering if metal film resistors could be used to replace them in sensitive circuits like switched-mode power supplies.
I understand that metal film has better reliability with age and less noise and 1% tolerance, are any of these elements going to introduce any issues though?
To sum it up, is there any advantage to using metal film resistors over a carbon film in PSU's?

I found this and it looks close enough http://www.datasheetcafe.com/b20p03-datasheet/Re: Asus GTX 670 dcII burnt mosfet<b...tasheet/...

Re: Fractal 1000w shut down if gaming
Would be nice if you could provide some personal photos of the PSU, to see if there are any issues with it.

Are there any visual defects present on the board? Some photos of YOUR psu would really help...

Re: Corsair TX650 low voltage on 3.3V rail
Can you specify in which photo, i did a close visual inspection with a magnifying glass to read the information on the caps and did not notice any bulging.
As for the caps, I'm waiting for the LCR-T4 ESR Meter to get delivered to be able to test everything properly....Last edited by Viperel; 05-22-2016, 07:48 AM.

Re: Corsair TX650 low voltage on 3.3V rail
Managed to take a few photos of it, but it's extremely cramped so not much can be seen without disassembling the heat-sinks. I did however manage to write down all the caps.
22uF 50V - Chemi-Con [KY]
47uf 25V - Chemi-Con [KY]
68uf 25V - Chemi-Con [KY]
220uf 16V - Chemi-Con [KY]
2x 1000uF 16V - Chemi-Con [KY]
4x 2200uF 16V - Chemi-Con [KZE]
2200uF 6.3V - Chemi-Con [KY]
4700uF 10V - Chemi-Con [KY]

As for the main cap: 470uF 400V - Hitachi...

Re: Corsair TX650 low voltage on 3.3V rail
I finally found everything i need on Farnell, the local shops don't have anything of quality as some tried selling me Fuhjyyu and Yageo(?)

Re: Corsair TX650 low voltage on 3.3V rail
Have been looking all around town and I am unable to find any Low-ESR 1uf/50v and 2.2uf/50 caps, although I seen just one 2.2uf Panasonic FC rated for 100V.
I searched that the usual Low-ESR types are the Chemicon KY/KYB, Nichicon PW/HE and Panasonic FC series but they are pretty much impossible to find in such small capacity. Can they be replaced with something more common?

Re: the gutless, bloated, and fried power supply hall of shame
And here is a Micro ATX (SFX) 1.3 which came with a Deluxe case so im guessing the PSU is also made by them because there is no UL code.
All caps seem to be Chengx but at least they are rated 105degrees.
No heatshrink anywhere, a probably underpowered 10A schottky, the fuse is soldered directly to the board, but at least there seems to be a PWM IC CG8010DX16 supporting UVP/OVP...

Re: Corsair TX650 low voltage on 3.3V rail
That's what i was thinking initially, they are probably way past their durability no matter the brand.
I checked the soldering and did not notice any cold joints. I did hear about a mod to mount a 10K pot on the sense line to control it's voltage artificially but i would prefer to keep it in it's original specifications (LINK for who's interested)Re: Corsair TX650 low voltage on 3.3V rail
