• Re: Microwave Issue

I have a current clamp so will try that. However by the noise it's making I would suspect it's ok on the primary as it started to make the much louder buzzing having replaced the HV fuse. I would suspect if anything a broken secondary but I dont have a meter or other bits to test it properly. Thanks for the reply.

Once again thanks for all the replies and detailed responses. I have checked the magnatron for signs of arcing and there is none. I have tried shorting the cap after trying cook and noting happens, no spark. The cap tests out as working with my meter as I say. The only component I haven't tested is the transformer which is the bit that I think is making all the noise. I have looked at replacement caps and the diode is on the other terminal to mine does it make any difference? I guess I am going to try and test the secondary winding of the transformer.

Thanks for the replies guys. I have as you note Ruky checked all the items bar the secondary transformer winding on the HV circuit and they appear to test OK but thats not to say the cap which is reading correctly isn't breaking down under 2kv.

Mag is giving me 0.19 to 0.2 on filament and open circuit filament to case but I haven't tried banging on it or removing it to check for damage so I will do that today.

I have read people saying the waveguide could be faulty but I am not sure how, isn't that just a metal guide?

    Thanks...

Hi, Thanks for the reply. its a whirlpool jq280 which is not common here in the UK but I do have this link https://www.manualslib.com/manual/982093/Whirlpool-Jq-280-Ix-Au.html?page=5#manual

I agree about replacing parts but I did the diode as its was cheap and as you say something difficult to test with a DMM. I do think the old one was probably good though looking at the DMM readings.

The diode has crimped on tags that are different so its defo in correctly. I haven't yet removed the magatron so maybe thats the...

  • Microwave Issue

Hi guys, hope someone an give me a little help here. I bought a broken microwave with the intention of fixing it. The output to the HV circuit is working and after some investigation I found a HV fuse that had blown that was in a plastic carrier under the fan. Anyway I decided to order a new fuse and diode which is strapped across the case and the 2300v cap. Before I replaced these items the microwave hummed normally and it appears to work but there was no heat. Since replacing the fuse - i think the diode was OK - it now make a very loud buzzing noise when on and still no heat. I have tested...

@stj - No this is one of the few chipless carts

@fzabkar - I can't measure it there I am measuring it further back. It seems it realises black is missing first.

In fact I think that I may be missing the common leg and thats why I get 0 across the PT's I used another ground point and measured 3.1v on each PT present. Will test again later as it was late and now its WORK!! so won't be able to get on it for a good while.

Thanks again for all the help and interest.

looks like the problem may be somewhere else then as the black cart PT is not even on the baord any more lol and it still says cannot detect black cart.

    another forum showed this http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f109/brother-mfc-7400c-black-ink-lock-out-172525.html#post2423149

its a different cable and printer but interestingly its pin 5 they cut. Do you think that would work here for me.Re: Basic Board Help<br /> <br /> ...ould work here

  • Re: Basic Board Help

The machine has 2 boards doing the same thing. One set monitor the carts being inserted which is working. Once inserted the second board is used to see if there is ink in the cart. This is the one that appears to be broke as the printer acknowledges the cart but then says can't detect which from what I have read is what happens when this board goes faulty.

So there is only one machine and I am trying to figure out how to override or fix the ink monitoring board to get it to print again. If I could just remove this board I would but it doesn't like...

On another note the missing part was there and it wasn't detecting the black cart. Now its snapped off its the same error. Do you think I just need to jumper 3v to pin 2 on the ribbon?

OK done a few measures but get nothing on the damaged board across the phototrans. The working board however does as you say and ramps up when blocked.

This is the best I can work out for the layout of the board attached. I can see the 1.18 v supplying the LEDs but cant see any v on the phototrans. That said if I put one lead on the phototrans and the other on pin 3 or 4 of the ribbon I can see it go above 2.5v....

OK Bit of an update. The working cart inserted board seems to have 1.18v at the LED side of the sensors and just over 3v on the receiver side. The resistance of the receiver goes from around 2k when covered to 900ohms uncovered. Does this sound right?

The none working board has the 1.18v on the led side but does not seem to have a voltage on the receiver. I am not sure though if this is due to one being snapped off on the end of the receiver circuit. I can't see that is the case though as they appear to be wired in parallel.

    With no...

Hi Guys, Thanks very much for getting back to me.

When I use a camera to look at them they do not light up as would be expected. I am going to go get my VM now and see whats supplied to the led circuit and yes its a brother.

OptoInterupter! Thats what I should have searched for would have saved me a lot of time lol! Thanks. As for P/N - it says N73 on the bottom and 2x2 o the side. attached is a pic of the top side.

    Will measure now and update.

Thanks again guys for your interest....

  • Basic Board Help

    Hi

I need a bit of help with this board. This board is one of two that work similarly. One which is working detect a printer cart being inserted when a bit of dark plastic goes between two sensors. The second pictured works the same way but detects if ink is in the cartridge through a window in it. Anyway. Its not working but I don't really know how to bypass it.

One the back of the board represented by the colours on the pic are the sensors each colour is the pair for each cart. I could do with help trying to understand how to solder this up to make the board think...

  • Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

    Hi Everyone,

Not that I imagine anyone reads this but I am new here, not really very knolagable unlike a lot here but understand a fair bit. Would love to devote more time to this as a hobby but just don't get the time tbh. Anyway currently my project is resurrecting a Sony KDL-42W706B with a 3 flash error. I couldn't find a schematic to know what outputs I should be seeing on the Power Board so I have ordered a second hand one which amazingly was only 99p plus postage on a Buy it now!.

    Looking forward...
