Relevant info for this model - BF97 suffix (BIOS 1.5.1) seems to have a bug, it will not unlock with the BF97 password but will unlock with the E7A8 one, generated on bios-pw.org

Re: Thinkpad L480 Bios repair
Fixed with U1 tool. The important step seems to be initialising the EEPROM. First I tried just deleting/rewriting some of the data individually which didn't work.
Step 1: Menu 2, Menu 2, take note of B0 and C0 serial number. These are also on the barcode labels on the motherboard.
Step 2: Menu 5, Menu 2, take note of EEPROM data. I'm not sure how much of this is relevant.
Step 3: Menu 5, Menu 1, initialise EEPROM
Step 4: Menu 2, Menu 1, re-add B0 and C0 serial.
Step 5: Menu 4, Menu 2, re-add...Last edited by mp3boy; 10-16-2023, 04:15 PM.

Re: Thinkpad L480 Bios repair
This fixed the first one (PF1EPTCK), thank you.
0188 RFID Serialization error still present on the other one. I will have a play around with u1 tool as suggested by SMDFlea on another thread.Re: Thinkpad L480 Bios repair

Re: Thinkpad L480 Bios repair
Hi all,
I have a couple of L480 with issues if anyone can help please.
First one has a corrupted BIOS and would not boot. I flashed a working file from a different L480 and it boots but goes off after 10sec.
Second L480 has "0188: Invalid RFID Serialization Information Area" on boot.
Original BIOS dumps attached (these had passwords but I have now removed them).
Both are 20LT-S4SP00. board NM-B461
SN (bad flash): PF1EPTCK
SN2 (RFID error): PF1H1V7H

Re: Hp elitebook 840 g6 locked bios
Problem solved, badly formatted text file, BCU works fine for all fields.
Notes in case it helps anyone:
Much easier to backup and restore DMI with BCU if the laptop is bootable into Windows. Run the following in administrative command prompt before and after resetting password:
before flashing any files!!:
BIOSConfigurationUtility64.exe /Getata.txt
after unlock:
BIOSConfigurationUtility64.exe /Setata.txt
power off, battery pull,...

Re: Hp elitebook 840 g6 locked bios
I am using this method on my own 840 G6. I have successfully removed the password by replicating the changes made in the 32MB unlock file, but HP BCU tool won't program the Product Name and Feature Byte.
The system is in MPM unlocked mode and I have set the CT, Serial and Build ID using HP BCU.
WnDMIFit gives a Board Not Supported error and runs in read-only mode.
Any advice please?...

Re: THINKPAD L390 password
@Vesko356 - any chance you could take a look at this one please? Or share the additional patch method required for the L390? Thank you
I understand it has something to do with EfiSystemNvDataFvGuid but I couldn't find that when looking with UEFItool or a text string search in HxD....Last edited by mp3boy; 08-26-2023, 10:22 AM.

Re: THINKPAD L390 password
This is identical to the autopatcher generated file, which is known not to work on the L390 ...

Re: Microsoft Surface Pro 3 UEFI password
Hi,
Please could someone extract the password from this dump?
I got as far as pasting the hex string into the decoder but the formatting is broken in LibreOffice and there's a picture over the top of the output field.

Re: THINKPAD L390 password
Seems to be fixed by re-adding a supervisor password, save and reboot, then it keeps any changed settings....

Re: THINKPAD L390 password
A couple of these L390 are failing to retain any changed BIOS settings 90% of the time. It also hangs for a moment when i switch through the BIOS menu tabs.
I have reset the BIOS to defaults, pulled the CMOS battery and updated to latest Lenovo BIOS, but if I e.g. change boot mode or try to set a new supervisor password, most of the time it reverts back to previous settings.
Has anyone seen this issue before, any suggestions please?Last edited by mp3boy; 06-07-2022, 03:24 AM.
