Re: Asus VK266H Monitor rebuild.
They aren't fakes..., only Panasonic (FR, FM, or FC in that order, or Nichicon, PW)... FYI......

Re: Capacitor problems with LCD's
So the manufacturers aren't doing anything about the capacitor problem? It's a necessary evil that must be used in all of the power supplies? I was wondering if there's something on the horizon that might replace the aluminum radial capacitors.
I guess it's in the manufacturers best interests to continue to use them as they need to continue to sell monitors.
The LED's don't use the same power supply?

Capacitor problems with LCD's
Hi,
I was wondering if the newer LCD monitors out there, 2009, 2010 era are being built with the same radial aluminum capacitors as the ones built in 2006, 2007? Just wondering if they are having the same problems with capacitor failure.
Thanks!

Re: HP w2338h, need help opening it up
Thanks much, I used both of your suggestions. I searched youtube for the w1907 and found this...

Shows how to pry off the front bezel...
Thanks much guys (or gals)......

HP w2338h, need help opening it up
I picked up this HP w2338h the other day. I've spend quite a bit of time trying to figure out how to open it up. So far, I don't see any way short of a hammer!
If anybody has any experience with this, I'd appreciate it...
Thanks

Service Manuals
Does anybody know where I can get a service manual for a Westinghouse L1916HW?
Thanks in advance...

What's this?
This is on a Viewsonic VX2235WM. The circuit board is attached to the LCD screen at the top. I'm trying to ID what it is, and what it does.
Any direction as to where I can get one would also be GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks!...

Thanks much PlainBill...........I'll order them today and see what happens...

Re: Trying to identify a diode...
PlainBill felt this was a DIODE SCHOTTKY 3A 30V SMB. I'm not good at figuring out the size of the component so I can order it. I've included another picture of it along with a mm scale.
Can anybody help regarding what size this thing is so I can order it. I can figure out measuring it, I just don't understand the naming conventions regarding size.
Thanks much for your time!!!...Last edited by sghill99; 05-03-2010, 11:12 AM.

Re: Trying to identify a diode...
Thx for all the help. I have not removed it yet, I tested it in circuit. I'll take it out and have another look if you think that would be helpful... I've contacted Viewsonic and am trying to get the schematic for this PSB.
Thanks

Re: Trying to identify a diode...
Not knowing there was an SMD Codebook, I just Googled TS and Diode, from there came up with the zener...
I looked over the Codebook, I'm still puzzled... I looked up schottky diode at digikey, and from looking at them, I still can't find anything that looks like this thing looks...

Re: Trying to identify a diode...
PlainBill, I think I identified this as a Zener Diode. I don't have a smd readily available, but found four axial Zener Diodes at Fry's. The four I found are:
24V 1W
18V 1W
2.4V 500mW
8.2V 500mW
These axial zener diodes are real, real small. I think I may be able to bend the legs of the diode around and soldier them into the SMD slot on the board.
Any possibility this may work?
Thanks...

Trying to identify a diode...
I think I have identified this diode as shorted.
I need help in identifying it...
Anybody know what type it is?
It is in the PCB attached to a Viewsonic VX2235WM-3 LCD screen
Where I can find one?
Thanks in advance.

I didn't see a copy of the service manual in this post. I happened upon it. Here it is, hope it helps...

Re: Troubleshooting a short circuit
Here are the resistance measurements for the two voltage regulators. I wasn't sure what probe should be where, so I indicated where I put the black probe and where I put the red probe for each measurement. Does these measurements tell you anything?
Ground = Pin 1
Output = Pin 2
Input = Pin 3
ME 1117 3.3V Voltage Regulator
1-2 .888 kohm Black Probe on 1, Red Probe on 2
1-3 1.120 kohm Black Probe on 1, Red Probe on 3
2-3 2.009 kohm Black Probe on 2, Red Probe on 3
...

Re: Troubleshooting a short circuit
Will do, regarding your suggestions.
When you say check the resistance between the three pins, is that in circuit with no power? Probably a dumb question, but my lack of experience necessitates it. Also, when checking the output side of the fuse to ground, what part of the screen should I use as the ground? And checking diodes for shorts, would that be diodes on the circuit board that the fuse is on, or all of the circuit boards that are inside the monitor (power board and video or logic board)?
I've heard that if...

Troubleshooting a short circuit
I have a Viewsonic VX2235WM-3 with a short somewhere on the circuit board that is attached to the LCD screen. I have isolated the shorted fuse, tried to replace it and it shorts out right away.
I've seen posts that suggest connecting a light bulb in place of the fuse. What type of light bulb? After the bulb is attached, I assume I power up the monitor, but what am I looking for? I'd assume the light bulb will go on, and something on the circuit board will start to overheat. Is this correct?
If I can't power up the unit due to it's layout, is there anyway I can connect...
