  • Re: Sony XBR-65X810C Not Powering on

[QUOTE=budwich;872591]I don't know about the main board direction. Your testing around the backlights seems to indicate a backlight problem.... bl-er was set plus some of the voltages appear to show opens. Some systems will not start if you have exceed the number of errors for codes like backlighting (and others) unless you do a force on sequence and / or zero the counters.

Budwich, do you know how to force on and zero the counters as you describe? I tried the different formatting of the usb, but as of now I'm not getting power...

I was looking on that site today funny enough. The boards are out of stock as there is no way to add them to your cart.

I am looking to purchase a new mainboard, but have not found one in my price range yet. I tried the firmware update but it was not successful. I believe the main is bad which Seems common on this model. Probably why the main boards are kinda hard to find for a decent price anywhere. Will eventually update this thread when I get a new board.

  • Re: Pioneer PDP-6020FD 3 Red Blinks

This set has 16 ICs. The area that isn't working is within range of the IC that was replaced. I know I have 2 pins that are floating because I'm struggling to figure out where I can attach them. The photo below shows one pin. I attempted to remove the surface of the dark green area that it appeared to be attached to but there was no copper underneath. Should I try and just find a common ground or should I try and look under the board for a trace?...

  • Re: Pioneer PDP-6020FD 3 Red Blinks

I have finally received and installed the new scan ic. Unfortunately, when I was removing the shorted one, I lifted some of the traces off the board. I tried bridging those missing traces with a copper wire to the new ic and thought it was successful. When I fired it up tonight, it did turn on! Whew! But, I have a horizontal line about 2” thick across the screen. Clearly the ic I replaced location.
Is this something that can be remedied? I figured if anything I might have a row of pixels that wouldn't fire, not the entire ic section....

  • Re: Pioneer PDP-6020FD 3 Red Blinks

    Update:
I tried testing the unit by checking vsus and vdar. I got 208v on vsus and 74.7v on vdar. I did the same tests with y drive disconnected and x drive disconnected. Both test ended with voltages coming up and a 3 red blink occurred after relay click and power down. So, no change noticed by any board getting disconnected.
I reviewed the scan ic's multiple times and did finally see a damaged ic. (Photo below) ic is circled in red. Some of the traces I tested do read shorted.
These “buffers” are bonded to the panel...

  • Pioneer PDP-6020FD 3 Red Blinks

    Hi Everyone,
I came across this set and wanted to give it a try. Of course, I'm getting a 3 red blink code which does not have much info to reference on the web. I'm thinking this is not one of the common failures of this model. I did find the service manual, and looked through to find what direction I should be looking. I do have a couple questions I'm hoping someone can point me in a better direction. The 3 blink indicates a scan failure. This could be scan ICs, y drive assembly, or x drive assembly.
How can I narrow my search regarding these boards? What are some key tests that...

  • Re: Sony XBR-65X810C Not Powering on

I was reading a different post about keeping mainboard plugged in but jump power on with 3.3v standby to see if anything else activated the set/any change. I used a resistor to jump, (I think 880ohm) but on the other side of the resistor the voltage was only 1.8v. Would this be enough to fire up power supply? What ohm resistor would work?
Really what I am trying to do is get the backlights on to know they work before I need to shell out $150 for a new mainboard. I figure I need to supply the backlights with 180v to get them to fire up?...

  • Re: Sony XBR-65X810C Not Powering on

I took the set apart all the way down to the backlights. I tested each light individually and they all light up. I checked 4 at a time with 12v which looked good. It looks like there are some diodes on the LED string and I test these and one is OL both ways. I might have caused this when I tested 12v across it. That area is lighting dimmer then the others that test good. Any ideas on replacement? I have a photo of the diode and the dim-ness of the led string in question. Also a pic of the entire backlight assembly.
    I also used a 1k resistor...

Apparently I was being lazy and didn't want to take the board out of the tv...
On those resistors I'm getting 1.2 ohms across each one. What resistance should these be putting out? Should I take these out of circuit to test? I have a picture of the IC you requested, the P/N is A3854AM and under that is 519A22A. I can report the mosfet readings, but I'm not sure which pin is gate, source, drain....

    Budm,
    Info for 2)
I do not see any resistors in the range of R6839 to R6833? Is this on the back of the board?
MOSFET Q6802, I measured a few diode checks in circuit and seemed to check out ok.

I do not see IC6801, I have IC6301 and the p/n is MIP2H2 and below that is 520S2C. This is the only IC I see on the power supply. Pictures attached...

“BTW, so does your board an exact matched to the one at Shopjimmy? Sony 1-474-633-11 (APS-395(CH)) GL6”
Yes, the board looks to be exactly the same as the shop jimmy one you are referring to. I have attached a pic of my board. I will have to run the other Tests you described later and will report back....

  • Re: Sony XBR-65X810C Not Powering on

Well I was able to at least jump power_on to the 3.3v and get my voltages back. Still nothing with the tconn voltages. I was able to jump the bl_on to the 3.3v and on the pin +out I was getting 220v, and the return -out I was getting 76v with connector plugged in. (Backlights) when the connector was unplugged I got 220v on +out and nothing on -out. Backlights did not light up either. I did have both dc_dimmer and pwm_dimmer jumped to 3.3v as well during this test. Mainboard was unplugged. Does the voltage drop across the +and - of the backlight...

  • Re: Sony XBR-65X810C Not Powering on

Well I ran into a little bit of a set back. I was rechecking some of the power supply voltages and now I’m not getting any of the reg12v voltage or the bl_err 2.3v. I’m only getting the standby 3.3v. I’m also not getting the 92v voltage that was going to the backlight connector. Set will not attempt to power on any longer either. So I’m going to have to troubleshoot the power board now because up to this point all these voltages were present. Any suggestions on where to start with this Sony power supply? I’ll be working on it later tonight.

  • Re: Sony XBR-65X810C Not Powering on

Should voltage be increasing when powering on? So then red/black wire should not be open circuit? I can take the panel apart and test LEDs/trace short if needed.

  • Re: Sony XBR-65X810C Not Powering on

I checked the harness to mainboard for continuity and it check out. On the backlight connector, should I be getting continuity between the black and red wire going to the backlights? It is open. (See photo of connector) Also, I measured voltage on cn6801 (backlight connector) unplugged and plugged in, and I got the same voltages, around 92v. Still presuming mainboard issue but not confident I can't get any results from the backlight tests....

  • Re: Sony XBR-65X810C Not Powering on

Thank you freakaftr8 and nomotesonys for the guidance thus far, Got around to trying to get the backlights on. I tried dc_dimmer and pwn_dimmer separately with bl_on all to 3.3v standby with no luck. I also tried all 3 together and nothing happened. I did want to report that at connector cn6801, on the pin +out1 I get 92v and no other voltage on any other pin. (Under regular plug in conditions) This connector looks to goto the backlights. When I had the jumpers connected I did not see the voltage. Anyone know if this power supply can force the...

Were you saying scratch looking for the logo or forcing backlight on? I tried jumping 3.3 standby with bl_on and I got no backlights.

  • Re: Sony XBR-65X810C Not Powering on

So I applied some heat to the main board with my heat gun. I was getting the indicator to light white for about 2 seconds and immediately turn off. Before it was staying on for about 20 seconds. So it acted like it didn't like the heat.
I tried a hard reset by pressing power and volume down simultaneously and then plugging the power cord in. I did get a green indicator light to illuminate for 2 seconds, which should show that the reset worked. I powered the tv back on and the indicator stayed on, i did not turn off. Nothing changed on...

  • Re: Sony XBR-65X810C Not Powering on

Attempted the firmware update two more times this morning in different USB ports and did not hit power button on the TV. The set never gave any indicator light and the zip drive just had a slow blink. No change to the TV. The zip drive file was extracted to a .pkg file. I don't believe this mainboard is awake and trying to take the update? It is getting clear to me that i may have to just replace the mainboard. Nothing seems to be making any sort of change to the sets functions. Thoughts?
