  • Re: Old AMD CPU naming system

It was because the AMD chips could get more done each clock cycle than the then Pent IV, so the 2600+ did the same work as a 2.6 gHz p IV.

Something AMD have been really good at (working smart), Intel just put more on die cache needing 10's of millions of trannys to get a few 100's of MHz speed bump, where as the Tbreads (before and after) only needed a few 1000's of trannys to get the same MHz boost.

Until Intel RE'ed the Opteron and called it the i3/5/7 range that was there only way to gain real speed ...or so I was told....

  • Re: Why do fluorescent Bulbs (CFL) last only a few months?

The good CFL seem to last much better, we have some that are at 5 years plus, but they just get switched on and left for the evening. As said no good for a place you switch them on for 5 mins at a time. Also they give ok light, but the guides given are too low, I just get the next one up from the given equivalent, and have no problems with light. Also the way they burn down is to loose light output, most of the people I hear saying that they dont give enuff light are running old bulbs, or have something like an 8w or 11w...

  • Re: whats this

Could it be part of a split charging setup ?
I worked for someone quite a few years back (1986~88) and he had a boat that I helped to sort some stuff on and I seem to remember seeing some thing sort of like this.

  • Re: The longest you've ever used a single system?

I am using this Asus A7N8X-vm400 nForce 2 board/box I built 2002/03 (I want to check now) it runs 24/7 as I use it for my local Usenet hub and web browser (its the only box on my network that has full port 80 out access) it still runs the AMD 2600 cpu, running a 2006 install of win2000 and IMO as fresh as the day.
Its had some more RAM within the first year to get it to 2 GB and a Seasonic S12 PSU the next year, but nothing had been changed for the last 4.

    A great box.
