• Re: in circuit ESR meters: GM328 Mega328; resistance from leads?

Can be zeroed out but with such low voltage if the internal resistance is too high I don't think you can get accurate readings. I suppose precision doesn't matter.

If they're not in parallel aren't you good to test ESR?

And for even for parallel, You cannot measure the individual ESR of similar value capacitors in parallel, but if the combined ESR is low enough then it would be reasonable to at least get a better idea of which caps to check first. The fail criteria for a capacitor is going...

• in circuit ESR meters: GM328 Mega328; resistance from leads?

I was wondering if anyone knows if these work okay for testing in circuit ESR for bad caps. I was a bit worried their internal resistance, the leads, might be too high to get precise enough readings. I'm not trying to be a technician and fix things all the time, but every now and then finding bad caps would be nice.

• Re: I need help fixing a Sony GDM-FW900 24” CRT

Hey thanks for reply!
I was a bit skeptical this would be the only fix required given the funny green lines mentioned with the dynamic fuzzying. And wondering how long it would even last if it did remedy it.

Alas it seems someone else grabbed it for $50, I hope they have good luck!

Hi All GDM-FW900 owners/troubleshooters. I was considering picking up this one locally to repair:

• Re: Sapphire HD 7870 possible short

I've had a problem with my 7870 too, maybe a bit different, but caps are notoriously a weak link in electronic failure. Mine is a PowerColor brand, it worked fine for 2 years, then when I my ASUS LCD started to tank, it was causing my new BenQ LCD to flicker and the video card to humm. I since repaired the very old ASUS LCD it's working fine now. But the the 7870 card doesn't seem to be able to handle the new 144hz BenQ too well, used to only flicker when I plugged in both LCDs, but now the BenQ alone is flickering by itself. I plugged the BenQ...

I think I've found all good caps to do full replacement of all 23 caps, do these all look compatible:

Anyone else had issue with finding a cap to replace the one 8mm 470 uF 16v cap on the main board?
Digi-key doesn't have any such 8mm with 10,000 hours, only two 9,000 hours are these:

I've gathered as much, but unfortunately I've failed to find such any way to decipher the model number of these elite capacitors and any of their ratings beyond the capacitance and voltage. (or max operating temperate)

but you think 968mA and 28 mOhm is good enough?
if that's fine I might just go with this 1.238A 18 mOhm also 35v one for 8 cents more and go with 1 better than than the worst compatible 10,000 hr cap for all the rest of them like that too.

Alright, Actually I think I can get them cheaper going through digi-key so long as the shipping isn't too much. Question about how "good" of caps to get though:
of all the compatible 680uF 10,000 hr caps, price ranges from $.55 to $.95 with respective ratings of 25V, 968mA, 28 mOhm and 35v, 2.9A, 17 mOhm.

Alright, does this seems like a good buy on the caps then?

Also I can desolder and measure them individually and only order replacements for ones that don't measure well, is this a reasonable idea or just do the whole lot?Re: Asus VK266H Monitor rebuild.<br ...apacitor

Yes, the mainboard has 12 little ones, and 2 470uF ones, all CapXon. You'd replace all of them? They also show no physical signs of wear.

The ones on the powerboard are all eLite....

To my dismay I don't see any bulging on any of the caps on the power board. Do you see anything wrong with this power board?
Should I still replace all these caps?
Thanks...

My VW266H is failing too, I get a similar power up issue as this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JqHGihXIzaE

I've found after slowly cycling through the display modes (HDMI, VGA, DVI, ect) 2 or 3 times, it's been progressively taking more cycles, it will eventually display correctly with no visual problems.

However... It causes my speakers to create MUCH more power humming noise, and my other display to flicker/pulse noticeably at about 1HZ(and much worse when it's displaying more white). Also, my video...
