  • Re: Panasonic TX-ASW654

Thanks for the input, but after having a really good look at the panel, I've had to conclude that this one is too far gone....
I'll leave it for someone far braver or experienced than myself.

  • Panasonic TX-ASW654

A neighbor approached me yesterday about this TV.
He got a repair qoute of about € 800 (close to $ 1000) and was wondering if there was an alternative route to repairing this puppy.
My, rather uninformed, guess would be that the panel is faulty, but if anyone with a bit more knowledge would care to venture a guess.....

I'd like to try and repair this one, but the seller is holding out for better offers.....
We'll see if he wants to change his mind.

Meanwhile I came across a 616 with the usual HDMI-board problems: it's now off to Onkyo and should be back in a week or two.

So I went over, asked to hook up the unit only to power and turned it on.
Display read "Check SP-wire" and the unit turned off.
Seller turned the unit back on and within a second we had a show: pop, crackle, sparks and smoke!
Pulled the cover and found scorch marks and some physically blown apart parts....
Must be the infamous bad caps around the last amp.

Probably above my level of expertise to attempt repair so I left the seller with a really low-ball offer. We''ll...

    wonky Onkyo TX-NR717

    Hi all,

I'm in the process of negotiating a buy of a wonky 717 so I can't be absolutely sure which symptoms it shows, but I could benefit from any help in troubleshooting.

According to seller the unit shuts off all sound but after a power off/on it would work again for a while.

As I'm aware of the HDMI-board problems and Onkyo repair service, I have no problems of buying a unit with such a problem. The fix is easy (ship it out) and free, so no hassle. But any other problem in the unit might pose 'a challenge' for me, since no experience in electronics...

  • Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

    Hi,
Found this site in researching problems with a friend's Panasonic plasma TV.
Late '40's and not really electronically trained, but willing to learn....
