Thanks Vince. I linked the board I bought from ebay above, but in case the link doesn't work too well in the future here is the details of the item:

    Samsung LE40M86BD ( BN41-00813B-MP1.0) AV Board

The original board in the TV was: BN94-01264b

As Alastair said in his post earlier the board is actually quite common and even if its from a different size tv, you can alter the size in the service menu....

Just thought I would update to say I fixed the issue by buying a replacement motherboard.

It was a different board number from mine but was for the exact same model and size tv. All I had to do was plug it in and the TV has been working great since.

Thanks everyone for their help getting this sorted.Re: LE40M86BD switching off/on

So I cleaned the motherboard and baked it for 10 mins. After testing it again it now turns off and stays off rather than turning back on. The motherboard also exhibited more discolouration too, see in this picture:

Looks like its gonna have to be a new board after all. Running out of things to do with this one and if anything with it not turning back on the problems got worse!Re: LE40M86BD switching off/on

That's good to hear but I can't find any matching my board number:BN94-01264b do you happen to know which other boards will work? There's a few on eBay so it would help to know which other numbers will work well in my set....

  • Re: LE40M86BD switching off/on

I checked out the visual difference between that board and mine. The main is the side panel. The one on eBay is missing the side panel ports like hdmi 3 svideo etc.The other missing sockets aren't actually used on my board despite being there. I wonder if it matters not having the side panel, I don't use it anyway. There are more expensive boards like this that look more similar but cost twice as much, I may have to just buy the expensive one instead.Re:

Yeah the inverter voltage is on a different connector. I've tried jumping both BLon and PSon before but at the same time. Not with each other but with their respective standby. The set wouldn't start and made a fuzzy noise. I can try it only with the inverter cable though. What would trying it conclude btw?

I found this main board for the 46 inch m87 which I thought was just cosmetically different. I wonder if it would work.

    I'll...

Thanks. The PSon is the same as pin one on my screenshot?
If so it doesn't gradually drop. The tv turns off and on and between those moments the voltage suddenly drops to nothing and after jumps back to about 1.94.

It's the inverter power that drops gradually by comparison. It's usually reading over 5v but as the set powers off it slowly goes to 0 and slowly comes back as the set turns back on again.

If I get a boards listed for a different screen size but for the same model tv can adjustments be...

This is the pin arrangement for the test points. Is the PS-On you describe power on/off as shown on this schematic? It always measures 1.93/1.94 even when the set isn't turning itself on and off, so this is definitely a motherboard fault and not power supply related? Thanks

Is there any way for me to test whether my bad soldering work has caused a problem on the board? Like measuring the voltage coming out of the circuit where the two caps I replaced are?

    Okay...

    Thanks for the help!
It seems I'm unfortunate to own a set that has a rare board. I've searched via a proxy on shopjimmy and there's no results for my board number. There's no direct north American equivalent to the m86 either. The 65f and 61f seem most similar. But even boards listed on eBay here for my exact same set have different part numbers.

I don't have any ipa but I can buy some to clean the board. Not sure it's worth it if I'm replacing the board?

I'm scared I've damaged where I've fitted the two replacements...

It's strange because I've seen boards on eBay from the same tv model but they are a different board number. The one I found for a good price is for the 46 inch version of the tv but the number is different.

Edit# this is a different number but is for exactly the same model as my tv. http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=391390218263&alt=web

I've had the set since new and all that's ever happened to it is the firmware was updated by a Samsung engineer. This is the first time the set has been opened!...

  • Re: LE40M86BD switching off/on

Okay so I left it in standby for a while and it switched itself on which I've noticed from time to time.

Nonetheless after I had it off for a while it started the turning off/on clicking loop and I tried warming things up with the hairdryer. Sadly it had no effect, by the end the motherboard was warm and the heatsink almost too hot to touch. I tried all around the board but no place stopped the power cycling. I tried even warming the power board too but it didn't help.

Shall I risk trying a new motherboard?

The set isn't turning off/on today so it's hard to test. I have tried before with a hairdryer though and it hasn't helped. Need to wait for it to start turning off/on to test. It's so intermittent.

I tested all the caps on the power board in this picture:

and I replaced the two in this picture:

Thanks, I gave this a try and it doesn't do anything. I was hoping it would show a particular spot was at fault but the TV just keeps switching off and on.

Is there a way I can get the power supply working without the motherboard so I can be sure a motherboard replacement will work?
    I tried to short the 5.2v standby/detect...

  • Re: W241D (W240D) flickering Problem

I have exactly the same problem with this monitor. I've tried replacing the two caps mentioned in the thread earlier but it hasn't fixed the problem. After a while the monitor continues to flicker.
Is there a method to diagnose this fault and fix? Thanks for any help.

  • LE40M86BD switching off/on

Hi all. I own a LE40M86BD which in the US is internally comparable to the 65f series and externally to the 61f.

It's been turning itself off, then on, then off, then on for a while but it's now been getting a lot worse. It starts to happen about 5-10 minutes after its switched on. This on/off cycle happens now for as much as an hour and then stops on its own. After the TV has stopped turning itself off then on it works completely fine!

I've read online similar cases and unfortunately they all lead to the same blown capacitor problem. See my pictures in the album...

  • Re: Samsung LE46M86BD Constant Restarting

Does anyone know what replacement motherboard I can order for this set? The markings on my board read BN94-01264B(1010(1005) but I can't find that exact board available online.
