  • Re: BG caps? Who makes them?

As an old Ham Radio Op (since 1956), I know that Mallory has also made capacitors since before WWII.

He insists that the BG caps have ALL failed within 6 months, repeatedly, as the PSU manufacturer has an excellent warranty and replaces them for free.

However, shipping costs are higher than replacing them himself with his choice of caps, which in this case is Mallory. He says that any PSU in which he has replaced the blown BG caps with Mallory's has never failed afterwards.

    So, who makes B...

  • BG caps? Who makes them?

One of the guys on one of my amateur radio lists mentioned some industrial switching supplies that used BG caps. All have failed within 6 months of use. He replaces them with Motorola brand caps and has had no failures since.

So, who makes BG brand caps?

    Anyone know?

  • Re: The Hall of Shame - Badcaps Photo Montage

Can anyone tell me 1) who made these POSs, and 2) what the information written on them and their colors mean?

For instance, in the photo of the single cap, the number 49, 470 (uf, I presume), the 6e, and the green stripe.

I apologize for the out-of-focus photos, but I will bring my "good" camera to work tomorrow.

  • Re: List of Bad Cap Manufacturers

    Ltec

Gold script Ltec enclosed in oblong circle. Gold lettering for values. Caps are green with gold negative-post stripe. Cross-shaped vent. 1500 uF at 6.3 V. Two each in two different no-name 3DF-FX5200TV video card. ALL bulged or leaking.

All other caps, which appear to be OK, are also Ltec. mid-sized 470uF at 6.3 are dark blue with white or light-gray lettering and stripe, small ones, 100 uF, 16 V, 105oC are black with gold lettering and stripe.

Yup. 4 of the little dudes are spilling their guts. I REALLY need a better camera!

I completely agree. What I had thought was that I should replace ALL of them. New caps aren't all that expensive. Trouble is, I am not sure the stupid card still works. Guess I'll find out.

    Thanks. More later.

  • Video adapters - bad caps

Lately, I have had considerable trouble with various video cards. The total so far this week (!) is 4 which have gone belly-up. They are:

    1) EVGA GeForce 7600GS. This one also took out the mobo. It was contained in a computer I built for our oldest son about 5 years ago. Mobo was a Gigabyte GA-7N400. He was using it and heard something "POP". 4 of the capacitors on it are blown, one blew its guts all over the inside of his computer.

    2) No-name 3DF-FX5200TV. This one caused BSOD BAD_POOL_HEADER errors on all users OTHER THAN one. (Weird!)

    3)...

I am somewhat confused: do you mean in my photos?

I can see two 1500uF at 6.3 with blown tops in the first photo, and two 1000uF 6.3 with blown tops in the last photo.

I apologize for not posting better photos, but I didn't have my camera with me. I took those with my cell phone camera.

    I'll bet you're right.

So, what should I replace them with? Panasonics? Rubycon? Nichicon?

Here are 4 photos of the bad caps on the EVGA e-GeForce 7600GS video card. I hope they are clear enough. If they aren't, I'll redo them.

As I said, when this thing blew up, it took out the mobo too. :-(...

I have an EVGA video card with some bad caps on it that I have not seen here. They are all silver-colored with a blue "edge" that looks sort of like one of those so-called "solid" caps, but isn't. There is no name on them whatever. Says "FZ72" and "FZ73"on top of each cap along with the values.

I'll post a photo as soon as I can get them taken.

Anyone have any idea who made these PsOS? (Pieces of Sh**)

When they went out, they literally "popped",...
