Is your avatar the character "Oddball" in the Movie "Kelly's Hero's"? Looks just like him. Donald Southerland was the actor.

I want to say i read somewhere (maybe here) about some one replacing the tint that was burned off ....is that possible?

BTW when i am booting on to win7 the upper right corner is blue like it should be but as you look diagonal to the left all the way to the lower left corner it gets darker and darker grreen till it is all dark green in the lower left.

if TSM does not have the part(s) i neeed is there another place i should try?

I have read in this forum about a gy who took his part cleaned everything but still wound up get a new unit because it was the red (i think) that was known to go bad on that particular unit... i look at it like this...the unit is 5 years old with a known issue with the light engine so replacing on LCD would just be prolonging the inevitable fact that the light engine needs a total rebuild so I dont think i will even bother trying to clean it ill just go for the rebuilt from TSM...but they only give a 6 month warranty ...

Bringing this topic back from the dead my friend just gave me his KDS-60A2000 sony SXRD with the dreaded greent tinit issue (im using to type this post) the green tint is not all over the screen mosylt on the bottom and middleleft....should i try to clean it or just go for a refurbed unit? i am waiting for a price quote from tri-state ..around $300 ..i hope

i know per our original discussion that these tv's are not always worth the time or money but i figure if i can get it going for around $300 it might be worth it ...

would you guys say that a video card that works but has random characters and corruption is a bad GPU as compared to bad caps?

When we used toget tube tv's into our shop with the same problem it was bad solder most of the time...solder heats up expands breaks connection...cools down contracts makes connection...do you hear the coil click when the tv goes off?

thnx for your reply, i did some research and found out that these units run hot I can smell the heat from 5 ft away, when the unit has been on for an hour I hear what i can only describe as a tiny electric motor touching a bit of metal....it is coming from the scan board I know there is no motor back there so I am sure there is something about to die I
will try the caps on the PSU and look for broken trace...but after that i am not sure the tv is worth any more investment of time or money...

  • sony KDS-R60XBR1 60 inch DLP 720P/1080I

I was thinking of picking this unit up, i did a search on here and found no posts, this unit is notorious so much so sony is offering deep discount on newer LCD to owners of this because of heat related melting issue and color distortion ...it can be fixed but was wondering if any here had any dealing with these and think it is worth it to invest time and money.

    thnx...

thnx guys for your responses , now there is a new development...the regular composite (yellow rca video) turns the tv off as described when signal hits it...but the RGB component works (which it did not do originally) . There is a weird green hue that shows up during some scenes in a movie...mostly during blue sky scenes, i thought i read some where that bad caps on the PSU can cause this kind of problem.
Do you think the input board is bad as well? or could it have been the problem all along? do i still replace all the caps on the PSU...

  • Re: TV fixed it self?..please read

ok gents riddle me this...how can a tv not work (go to standby when signal is applied or lets stand for more than 2 mins) then have the PSU removed for almost 4 days then have the PSU put back in (with out any repairs) and have the tv work for almost the same amount of days?(tv is back to original problem) ... I cant get my head around this one...i know what bad solder is...i know what a bad cap looks like...I know how a failing cap can act (screen bowing in on the sides when tv starts) I know that some components work fine when there cold but...

  • TV fixed it self?..please read

i posted about my 2004 NEC PX42VP4A plasma tv, having an issue with turning off as soon as a signal was put to it...well an hour ago i decided to put the PSU back in and test the 15 pin computer hook which i thought i had tested but did not..long story short the computer booted up and thats when i saw kubuntu splash on the screen...and it stayed on : next I plugged in my DVD (RGB component cables) player and it has been playing now for the last 20 mins I am at a loss as to how it fixed itself...i know sometimes that electronics can get..."confused" especially after a power dip/loss...

ditto on what bill said, I think there are only 2 makers of LCD screens in the world and getting a replacement cost more than the TV is worth...i see them on craigslist all the time 1-2 years old 40-52 inch for $50-100 dollars because the screen is cracked....

thnx bill, i dont plan on putting much effort/money into this tv but it does provide a nice platform to learn from I will start with the 2 400v caps as they were the only ones to misbehave during an in circuit ohms test . i am a little confused about the resolution, it says the native is 480 x 853 but the max is 1600 x 1200...in theory this means i can run 720P and use a HD signal...is my assumption correct? this is my firsty plasma/LCD type tv so i am still learning I plan to use it as a tv and a computer...

I know this is an old thread but i was doing a search for posts related to my problem, your post came up plainbill because it is close to the problem i am having, (NEC PX42VP4A) screen will come on and power light will stay green unless signal is present then i hear a "click" (coil I think) and the screen goes off and will stay off even if signal is removed until i power cycle the TV. A visual scan of the 3 boards shows no burns, no burned components and no bad caps except maybe these (see pics)

  • NEC PX42VP4A 2004 plasma repair

hi gents this is my first post here i am currently working on the afore mentioned plasma tv, the problem is pretty straight forward, tv comes on but as soon as any signal (component,composite,VGA...etc) is applied it goes into standby mode after showing the images for 1-2 seconds, using the OSD does not cause it to go into standby mode, i have read several posts talking about the problem being the PSU or the input board. i have removed the back and looked for any bad caps..so far i have not found any leaking or bulging (except maybe one ..see pic) i have removed the PSU model# pkg-1953 and...
