Re: Receiving free-to-air satellite with USRP?
So C and S require a larger area and a small metal dish won't work? Looks like I'm stuck in the K band. Don't have the room for that size of dish. At that high of a frequency a C band dish is a giant compared to a small DTV dish. I guess once the signal is near ground level, the wavelength won't be caught in a small dish.

Receiving free-to-air satellite with USRP?
Not that big of a fan with satellites except for weather imaging. But I have both the Hack RF and USRP B210 that both receive up to 3ghz quite well with the AOR LN4000 preamp. Has know of software decoding for use with GNU radio for free to air on the C and K bands maybe Ku? There are boxes and cards that do it, but these recievers can do everything. Don't have a dish setup yet but do have a couple of homemade QFH and ADS made up. Just wondering if anyone tried free to air on this forum. Had Direct TV a long time ago. That's completely different from free to air. If there was something to decode...

Wireless adapter with wireless router with PC in the middle
This is a complicated project. I need to get a Linksys wrt150n to get internet from a PC that is getting internet from a USB wireless adapter that is connected to the real internet wireless router that is a Netgear N7000. This has bridging written all over it. When i have the cat5 cable connected to the PC's Gb port to the Linksys wrt150n's internet port and the usb wireless adapter is connected to the pc and connected to main SSID and I have it software bridged in XP with the local area connection. I can't get an automatic DHCP. Therefore no internet on the wrt150n. When the cat5 is connected...

Re: Question on M.2
Update: I dug out the adapter cables and they are RP-SMA. I will have to make nylon washers so I can adapt them to the I/O shield with a bracket or to the case. Can't use RP-SMA with a ground plane.

Question on M.2
I am planning on a new build with the Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD5H black edition with i7 4790K. Does anyone know if I can put a KillerN-1202 wireless adapter in the M.2 slot. Or will the bios not recognize it? I plan on using the computer case as a ground plane for the sma adapter cables as well. Any experience with the M.2 out there?

Where did all the floppy disks go?
Get some while they last. It must have been 4 months ago I could go to any office supply store and get a pack of ten 3.5" floppies for around $5. What happend? Now they're no where to be found except on the internet over $8 for a 10 pack. Various places and buisnesses still rely on them for simple graphics and such. They can't be on the wayside already?

Where to find Gigabyte ex58-ud4 v1.0?
Does anyone know where to find this motherboard? It seems like gigabyte only made a few hunderd of them. I can't find one anywhere. The reason why im looking for one is the 3 pci slots and on top of that its a really nice board for my next build. Any ideas would shure help out.

It boots! Incomplete joint.

Re: Recapping caused 64k base failure?
I'm going to try to reseat the dimm cap and see what that does. Maybe I didn't get enough solder down the trace.

Re: Recapping caused 64k base failure?
I wanted to replace the three wet MCZ's with polymer. But I can't just throw any 2.5 volt ones in due to very low esr and they will be fighting since they're in paralell. All the three MCZ's did was hold extra charge so the vrm input could keep up with the polys and to save a penny. So increase the uf in each input cap by 200 since each is in series. and increase the uf in the output to 1000. Good on the mosfets.

Re: Recapping caused 64k base failure?
Also the led light on the board now goes out in 3 sec. rather than 6 sec. after I hit the psu power switch.
Too low of esr from the Rubycons?? Can't be.

Recapping caused 64k base failure?
I had an old Intel D865GlCL that WAS booting with leaking VRM input. So I recaped the entire thing with four 16v 1800uf MCZ's (four 16v 1500uf HD used to be there) for input. Ten 2.5v 820uf SEPEC for output (three 6.5v 820uf MCZ and seven 2.5v 680uf Chemi-con polymers were there). Then a new 6.5v 820uf MCZ for the ram. There was also a 10v 2200uf HM with a coil beside it near the south replaced by a MCZ the same size. Everything soldered in without a single scratch. Now I get three beeps at power on (64k base failure). Everything is getting the correct amount of power, and gets to normal temp...

Re: Cheap epoxy potting compund with green Mixol?
Thinking about it. I'm going to have to lay 1/4 inch pull tapes around the ram chip. Then brush on some silicone conformal coating, and immediately pull the tapes. This way the ram chip is encapsulated with a peelable mask. Then I will have to mask around the repair area so the whole board is covered will pull tape as well. This way I should get a complete even coat without wetting everything.

Cheap epoxy potting compund with green Mixol?
I don't know if this has been posted before. But here it is. I was recaping an old 9600xt card and the iron sliped and took out a trace. I got it fixed just fine with a trace pulled from a junk board. Can I subsitute the potting compound with West System epoxy (composites) mixed with a slight tint of green Mixol, then styrene thinned and airbrushed on (2mil)? Whats in that expensive potting compound that makes it so special and expensive (probably no diffrent than any other polymer epoxy)?
Thanks

Does After Dark 3.3 copy files or take images?
I have After Dark v.3.3 installed on a virtual 95 plus machine. This question is pondering me. Does the dos command screensaver copy files or does it take images? You do see the files of your virtual drive on this screensaver. I really don't care since it's a virtual machine. Anyone know about this? Also, where can I find the Simpsons After Dark Screensavers?
