  • Re: FSP AU-500 Aurum series

+1 for the Panasonic caps. I too have a PSU made by FSP (Hexa model) and it has these BS CrapXon / OST / Teapo capacitors - soon to be replaced with Panny / Nichicon.

In my PSU, no capacitors were bulged, but most test bad on capacity and / or ESR! Especially the small ones (1uf, 2.2uf, 10uf) , they are all out of spec. If you are replacing caps in your PSU, make sure to replace'em all .

    Good luck with the recapping.

  • Re: Recapping of FSP Hexa 500

Thanks for the input, I'll go with them. Regarding this PSU model, would it be a keeper after the recapping (e.g. are they known to contain any flaws besides the poor choice in caps)?

Another thing I wanted to ask if you don't mind: In PSUs with active PFC iirc the voltage on the primary cap is pushed close to 400V. Judging by this, it would be a bad idea to use a 400-volt rated cap right? Cause those are an order of magnitude cheaper :P.

  • Recapping of FSP Hexa 500

    Hi,

I got this older Fortron Hexa 500 PSU pretty cheap, it seemed to be a good unit from a reputable manufacturer. My joy was quickly curbed after discovering that it is filled with CrapXon caps. Even the primary cap is a strange looking 270uf / 420v beast @ 85 deg. C. Everything looks OK, except for that primary cap which looks a tiny bit bulged.

I have decided to recap it completely since I hate the guts of Capxon and otherwise the unit looks pretty solid. The only thing is that here I could only find the following higher quality capacitors:

    - Nichicon...

I think I found a good (unlocked) bin file for the T43, but it is on a chinese forum and there seems to be no way to register on it (invitation only). Maybe someone here can download it?

The attachments seem to have been restored. Thanks for the program. Would it be possible for someone to dump a clean file for the T43 laptop (from PC8394 chip) for me please? I dumped mine but the password cannot be revealed for some reason. Looks like it's somehow corrupted. If I manage to get a working dump i'll write it to the chip with wpc8394 and maybe it will work.

    Thanks in advance!
