    I replaced the horizontal deflection ICs on a projection TV, using a cheap harbor freight $8 iron, the same Iron I had used to recap a few mainboards prior to that. Funny thing was I used it because it actually worked pretty well considering where it came from... The HF dumpster!
    But it was the last time I used it for an intricate job, I went on a mission to get a station after that. I got a 900m replacement handle, & ran it off of a transformer I had, at 1st it was a lot better. Then came the Hakko 9xx, I liked more, it was rough...

    The Tek 465b is still a useful scope for most of the things I've needed to use it on. It was the scope of choice by many repairmen years ago, along with an HP that I don't recall the model # of right now. You might find one for less outside the UK but I know the VAT is a factor then. At least that one has a probe so it can be tested out right away. Did you bid on it? If not there's plenty of them around so just keep watching for the deal you need.

    I've been reading a few of the posts regarding Acer displays, I got a AL2032w a while back that I haven't had much luck with. I did the same type of stuff as others, replaced caps having noticeable swelling, re-soldered a few points that looked less than perfect, prior to that I had checked the power supply, voltages were all proper. I haven't messed with it in a while but would like to get it working, from memory it had an blinking orange led, didn't power on, made a faint clicking sound from the speakers.
