I have a 40 year old Pioneer SA-9500 with a couple of 18,000uF capacitors that I just replaced. The amplifier worked great with no issues with these capacitors, but they had a soot black coating on the bottom of the capacitor. These capacitors faced down, so this isn't from dust.
I just replaced anyway and wonder if anyone seen this discoloration before and if it's a good or bad sign?

Fixed a fast screen flicker
I had the flicker problem with a 305T and of course started with the replacing the electrolytic capacitors hoping for the quick and easy fix. That didn't work so I proceeded to the next fix to reheat the Altera Hardcopy chip and to my surprise it worked like a charm.
Process:
1). Remove the T-Con board that has the Altera chip on it. Be careful removing the connectors as one of the was even glued on.
2). Purchase some KESTER 186 ROSIN on EBay. The same stuff used to reflow an Xbox 360 or PS3.
3). Have access...
