  • Re: VERY bad cap

I took a look at the rest of the caps and several of them are swollen , I imagine it has had it's time but it hasn't done too badly lasting 5 or 6 years of daily use.

Well I replaced the cap and it didn't fix it, all I was getting was the front panel led flashing I'm guessing that either the exploding cap caused some other damage or some other fault caused the cap to fail

started a topic VERY bad cap

    VERY bad cap

Approaching my elderly mothers door recently I heard a crack which sounded like a .22lr rifle, on entering she informed me that it had come from the TV or the digital recorder box, she had immediately switched both off at the power outlet so I took a look, the TV was fine but when sniffed the recorder box smelt odd, but not exactly a "burnt electrical" smell, on opening it up I saw that one of the 220uf 16v caps had literally exploded off the board leaving both wires in place, before I attempt a repair does anyone have any idea what could have caused this?...

Hi all, my sister was throwing out the TV in the title so I thought I'd have a go at repairing it, it switches on instantly when the power button is pressed but the picture is as shown in the attachment, sound is present from an external source but picture remains the same, after approximately 10-15 minutes the screen goes black, switching off then on again repeats the sequence, led 2002 is blinking leds 2001/2000 are steady green. I have searched far and wide for a picture showing the same fault with no success so am hoping someone on here has seen the same symptoms and can help with a fix before...

Hi all, I'm a tattooist from Manchester who until recently had no interest in capacitors etc but became fed up with replacing electrical items so decided to learn a little about what can be done to repair them, I soon realised what a lot there is to learn so please be prepared for what may seem to you to be stupid questions
