• Re: xbox ultimate solid-mod

Hi all,
Just revisting this after a long time.
That poly mode(with oversized caps) is mine and yes is not done well, pro level. Did not have the experience(not that i have it now) or the tools. I ordered the wrong size also. Lost my patience and just wanted to be done already.

@stj electrolytics were replaced with 'new' ones. I did that because i have found caps with the right values atm. Also didnt want to risk it too much. The info was scarce.

I have thought to replace the smd ones too but they were ok ....

• Re: Nvidia Geforce 4600 Ti Unkown Caps

Thank you guys. I really love this forum.

The green-silver metallic ones are not ok. You can see from the pictures that they are bulging or starting.

This card is a bit modded and not overclocked(i bellieve what the previous owner said ). Bigger radiator on video chip(i looked at it and it seems it's CPU cooler glued, maybe some thermal glue, to the chip), custom coolers on the memory chips(these also glued). I think it will hold another decade.

Anyway, beeing such a rare card i will poly mod...

• Nvidia Geforce 4600 Ti Unkown Caps

Hi ,
I want to replace all the capacitors on this video card and i have some issues not knowing the value for some capacitors.

My problem is with those surface mount caps. Not sure what value i'm looking at
The green-silver metallic one i think i know: 6v 470uf.
But the black-slver metallic ones i do not know. Can anyone help me with this?
(markings 330 6a 2g4 and 27 1000 6a)

I've attached some photos for you to look at.

Also i have some doubts about the blue ones: 4v 510uf. Seems a very odd value. Am i reading this right?...

• Re: Original Xbox Replacement Caps

Thanks.
I found out that the xbox has digital only output.

So i managed to finish my project here. I started with a trash xbox mobo. The capacitors were in a bad condition. Have leaked and bulging.

Trash board(now is a good one) uses:
-Nichon Hz near the cpu
-Nichicon HM
-Elna capacitors
-some Nichicon polymers
Values for capacitors used are the same as original.

Then i moved to the real deal. This board is polymer only. Almost same values used.
Exception...

• Re: Original Xbox Replacement Caps

Thanks Drack.

Does anybody knows if the xbox board is using caps for it's sound output.
If yes, which ones.? Are the below caps somehow used for the above purpose?

13x 25v 22uf Nichicon VR
7x 25v 100uf Nichicon VR

I can post a pic with the board if anybody wants to have a look.
Reason is that i can go with some good caps if this is the case:
Nichicon KZ or Elna Silmic II .

• Re: Original Xbox Replacement Caps

Hi all,
So i'm making a return to this project. I replaced the xbox PSU with a PC one and now i'm looking to replace the caps on my 1.4 board.

Looking for the caps of the board on websites i found myself with some questions.
Can i use low esr caps instead of general purpose(some are low esr) for this project?

An example : On the board we have : 1x 16v 680uf Nichicon HM (8x15mm)
Can i use this cap : http://ro.farnell.com/nichicon/rnu1c681mdn1ph/aluminum-electrolytic-capacitor/dp/2148320#techDocsHook...

• Re: Original Xbox Replacement Caps

I see.
Well i have a 1.4 board but i dont want the modify the PSU. I intend to adapt a top notch PC ATX PSU and use that. Will move the board in a new case in the end.

Will revert back soon with some pics and show what i want to change. Will try to use as much info from this thread. Really good stuff.
Thanks.

Hello,
I would like to say that the info in this thread is really good.
I'am also interested in the same subject but first i want to learn more because my skills and knowledge are very basic. Just what i learned in college, university. But i have my brain and will. I learn fast .

@NeMesiS34 can you make a list or summarize the caps needed with all the info about the caps? The info is somewhat all over the place.
Like the lists in the beginning of the thread.
Also i would love to hear your experiences replacing...
