FIXED!!!!! I had just had the A board rebuilt to remedy a power on problem that was taking longer and longer....so I concentrated on the 3 ribbons that attach at main board. used wife's fine make up brush to clean 1st large connection and wiped ribbon. had to repeat this as I saw improvement! after 1 more attempt, perfect! ended up being this 1st large ribbon that attached at buffer c2 where the corresponding vertical lines on screen were...the ribbon was seated correctly but was not apparently clean?...anyway, my 54 inch 2009 plasma is back...

same problem here.........single red light every 3 seconds......p/s board swap made no difference.....sent out A board for rebuild and now powers up but have vertical transparent line (3 inch or so wide) just left of center........?? I was thinking c2 board so I just ordered a good used 1 up ($18.00) and was hoping it will work. will be here in two days.........have tried re seating cables with no luck, but will try again.
