Re: SONY KDL-32NL140 no power light
Opps! Sorry, I forgot to give you that info. I get .391 off of both of them. Diode mode, no power....

Re: SONY KDL-32NL140 no power light
Hi budm,
No, there was no AC power when I did the diode test.
Here are the results from my latest test:
A & B = 00.9
A & C = 00.9
D & F = 00.9
E & F = 00.9
G & H = 00.9
I used the resistance setting on my meter to do the test, no AC power.
Just to clarify, I am a total noob to this. Although my son has a degree in Electronic Technology, and a BA in Computer Engineering, my talents lie elsewhere. Whereas changing...

Re: SONY KDL-32NL140 no power light
Sorry, but I'm not understanding, which two diodes do I need to check? Is the two marked with the red arrows?
Do I check the resistance between the other ones with or with out power?
Thanks!...Last edited by zogthegreat; 11-18-2015, 11:28 PM.

Re: SONY KDL-32NL140 no power light
When I measure between the filter, (red arrows), I'm still getting 0.25vdc
I not sure either. I'm trying to be as methodological as possible in my measurement. I have test my meter against several batteries and my coach's 12vdc and 120vac systems and it seems to be accurate.Re: SONY KDL-32NL140 no power light

I get .0L off the two inner pins on the board, no matter which way I put the probes.

Re: SONY KDL-32NL140 no power light
Hers what I get:
Testing diode D2: Blk on 1, Red on 2 = 0.502
Testing diode D1: Blk on 1, Red on 3 = 0.503
Testing diode D4: Blk on 2, Red on 4 = 0.500
Testing diode D3: Blk on 3, Red on 4 = 0.497

Re: SONY KDL-32NL140 no power light
Sorry, does this make more sense?
Pin 1 = .0L - Red to pin 1 - Black to pin 4
Pin 2 = .0L - Red to pin 2 - Black to pin 3
Pin 3 = .0L - Red to pin 3 - Black to pin 2
Pin 4 = .924 - Red to pin 4 - Black to pin 1
The only time I got any reading was when I touch the black lead to pin 4 and the red lead to pin 1. Reversing the leads, (Red to pin 1 - Black to pin 4), I get nothing.

Re: SONY KDL-32NL140 no power light
OK, after trying to desolder without desoldering wick, I finally got it off.
Here are my results, I tested in diode mode on my tester:
Red lead to pin:
Pin 1 = .0L
Pin 2 = .0L
Pin 3 = .0L
Pin 4 = .924
Black lead to pin:
Pin 1 = .923
Pin 2 = .0L
Pin 3 = .0L
Pin 4 = .0L...

Re: SONY KDL-32NL140 no power light
OK, this is what I got:
Diode mode:
Pin 1 = Black
Pin 2 =
Pin 3 =
Pin 4 = Red
reading = .478
Pin 1 = Red
Pin 2 =
Pin 3 =
Pin 4 = Black
reading = 0.L
Pin 1 =
Pin 2 = Black or Red
Pin 3 = Red or Black
Pin 4 =
reading = 0.l
ACV:
Pin 1 = Black
Pin 2 =
Pin 3 =
Pin 4 = Red
reading = 0.58
Pin 1 =...

Re: SONY KDL-32NL140 no power light
When I have it set to DCV, I get L.0, but when I hit the "range" button, I get 160.0mv
I'm using a Vici VC86 multimeter:
(Sorry, my son has a degree in electronics, but I'm not as good as he is for this type of stuff [or as knowledgeable]. But you give me an engine to take apart.....)...

Re: SONY KDL-32NL140 no power light
I'm not getting anything DCV on the two outer pins. This my bad part?
Can I upload a copy of the pic there? It might help someone else in the future....

Re: SONY KDL-32NL140 no power light
I get 116.5 across the 2 inner pins of the bridge rectifier.
Is this better? Or should | go borrow a camera? (I'm using my phone until I have time to try fixing my camera).

Re: SONY KDL-32NL140 no power light
Hi budm,
Here you go. I'm sorry about the image quality, my camera just died with a "lens error"!(I guess I'm taking something else apart today!)
I labeled the 120v, large cap and 3 small caps to give you some reference points. If you need more, let me know.
Thanks!...

Re: SONY KDL-32NL140 no power light
LOL, I was just about to post that up!
I scraped off as as much of the silicon that I could. The capacitors look OK. I don't have an ESR tester, so I will try to get the parts to build a capacitance tester and start testing them.
Question, do I need to unmount the caps in order to test them or can I test them while they are still on the board?Re: SONY KDL-32NL140 no power light

Re: SONY KDL-32NL140 no power light
Hi freakaftr8,
I get .025 DCV on the large round capacitor/filter
I was measuring it with the TV plugged in. (Not the correct way, I assume?)
I get 00.8 ohms, I get the same when I cross the leads on my cheap Chinese multimeter. When I test on a 3' piece of solid core copper wire, I get 2.0 oms, (to give you a reference range)....

SONY KDL-32NL140 no power light
Hi everyone!
I'm a long time lurker on the forum, but this is my first post. A friend gave me a SONY KDL-32NL140 LCD TV that will not power up. The power light does not come on when it is plugged in and it does not turn on when you push the power button.
I was thinking it might be bad caps, (this has usually been the problem when I have similar problems wit computer LCD's), but the capacitors seem fine, with no bulges or leaks. I tested the ceramic fuse next to the power in and I'm getting 38.2v AC, (red arrow in the picture). Not sure if this is normal or not, (that's...

Hi everyone!
I'm a long time lurker on this site, I've used information from this site to repair a variety of LCD monitors and other circuitry.
