    Re: ESR good vs bad

[QUOTE=Cartel;630975]Should ESR be closer to 0 ohms or high ohms?
    A 100uf 16V cap is showing 0.80
Is that bad? Would 1.0ohms be better or worse?

On a esr /low ohms meter a 100uf 16v cap should read about 0.7, a 100uf 25v cap should read about 0.32, as the voltage of the cap increases the esr progressively decreases. Your cap appears to be ok but change it if you are unsure. Esr does not always identify faulty caps as they do not place them under working loads. Hope this helps.Re: ESR good vs bad

    Introduction

Hi I have used the forum on many occasions and I guess now may be a good time to introduce myself. I have been in to electronics for more years than I care to mention, having managed an engineering technology centre for more than 30 years. My current interests are more on the musical side of electronics particularly amplifiers, digital mixers, electronic keyboards and organs including church organs. If you think I can help contact me any time. Cheers Shawy
