Re: switch mode supply transformer, leads to nowhere
Sorry about that, those heatsinks take a frightening amount of heat to get off. The input side was not so bad because I had it off before and just tacked it back on, but the output sink was a bear...2 iron job, need 3 hands.
I hope these views work better...

Re: switch mode supply transformer, leads to nowhere
thanks for the answer!
not without dismounting both heatsinks, all of the input; fuse, thermistor, rectifiers, choke and caps are hidden under the input switcher heatsink on the left. Most of the output filter is hidden under the other one.
I will do that next bench session

Re: Xantrex Powersouce 1800 Overloading (Error E03)
exactly budm!
OP needs a SERIOUS source of nominal 12VDC to even approach this unit's rating
I suspect if he did build a huge battery bank to run the thing for any length of time he would also have to address supplemental cooling for the inverter as it is clearly only intended to run for a few minutes with the original battery.

Re: switch mode supply transformer, leads to nowhere
OK, got back to the bench.
First one, top of board, input to the left, the stuff outside the heatsinks is pretty conventional.
2nd one bottom side input
3rd one bottom side output
4th, unwound XFMR, yu can see the short wire I am asking about
5th here it is taped back down with the shield layer ready to go back over it
edit/ hold on, I'm getting 500 from the serverLast edited by jojo69; 11-06-2015, 11:54 AM.

Re: Help needed getting an ESR meter...
I think I'm going for this one

$21.50 shipped, but it comes with a higher parts count and the rotary encoderRe: Help needed getting an ESR meter...d0BVvxce[/url]

Re: Xantrex Powersouce 1800 Overloading (Error E03)
or as Dave Jones over at EEVBlog calls it "marketing wank"
Yes OP, the length of the wires is very much a factor when trying to move very high currents like this, as is the contact area of the actual connections.
The good news is that your inverter is very probably just fine, you just need to build a solid, dedicated battery bank to power it....

Re: switch mode supply transformer, leads to nowhere
Sorry if I was not clear guys, I have pretty much given up on this one, having unwound the transformer,. I am just trying to learn at this point.
This was really a more general question about these nodes to nowhere. All I can figure is that they provide some sort of sense signal of current in the transformer?

switch mode supply transformer, leads to nowhere
Stumped troubleshooting a Cetek battery charger here. I am pretty weak on switch mode supplies.
There were 2 terminals on the transformer that were open to any other xfmr nodes so I figured that was probably the problem.
Unwound the xfmr and actually those leads just go a couple cm in next to shield wrap layers and end...what the actual *&%#?
I pine for the days of simple pass regulated linear supplies where I understood what was going on. Can anyone explain what is going on here?

Re: Xantrex Powersouce 1800 Overloading (Error E03)
recommend you stop playing like this, you risk overloading your vehicle alternator or melting those little jumpers
this inverter requires a serious source of 12V for large loads
I think the inverter is fine, you need to invest in a way to feed it.Last edited by jojo69; 11-03-2015, 10:21 AM.

Re: Xantrex Powersouce 1800 Overloading (Error E03)
get those dead batteries out of it and recycle them down at the port
I believe that the poor contacts and small diameter wires you are connecting to your 12VDC source are insufficient for your load. You need some heavy cabling for this, heavy and short as possible with solid contacts
For a 900W load you would be pulling 75A at 12V f the inverter were 100% efficient, which it is not. Probably need closer to 100A...your toy jumper cables just aren't going to do that mate. And that is assuming that your vehicle...Last edited by jojo69; 11-02-2015, 11:25 PM.

Dell U2311Hb 2 sec. to black, advanced edition
I posses multiples of this monitor so it was easy to rule out the CCFLs by swapping power boards. The issue followed the board.
A full recap did not fix it.
Been probing between the bad board and a good one off and on for 2 days, as much as I can stand it. xfmrs, HV output caps, all 2 and 3 legged silicon all check out the same with a multimeter.
Couple hours under the microscope looking for bad joints, finally in frustration resorted to baking the board...no change.
sometimes this hobby is not so much fun
Power...
