I'm taking a look at one vintage piece of equipment from my dad, a nice Pioneer SA-510 straight from 1980. It has been inside a box for the last 10 years or so and today I tested if it turned on and it sure did! But the stereo sound is a bit wonky, I have to wiggle the audio jack to achieve stereo sound, the audio pops when turning the volume and it very distorted.

I just replaced three of the caps, the soldering iron is still hot!

Hi again! Thank you for your complete rundown of all my questions.

I placed the order and I should have the caps by Friday... This Saturday will be "recap" day!

As soon as I'm done I'll update you and post pictures.

I think I noticed the drop in image quality and the high-pitched sound at the same time, it may be connected or I may be totally wrong.



In that case I'll stick with electrolyte caps, are those the types I need? I don't want caps that produce noise when I just want to fix that hehehe.



I'm going to order from rs-online.com because the shipping to Spain is 5€ vs 18€ from DigiKey.

I'm now going to list the parts...

Recently my trusty monitor from 2007 (wow!) started making a high-pitched sound while off or stand-by. When it's powered the sound disappears and the monitor works fine. I've also noticed that the colors are also very washed out compared to my new monitor, but I don't know if that's related.

I disassembled the monitor and saw one Elite cap very slightly bulged.
I took pictures of everything so you can recommend on what to do.
