Re: e701i-a3 no picture but backlights
Freak... If I do determine the bad drivers to be the ones on the bottom of the panel "the vertical drivers" can I still fix the TV by removing the defective driver like on the side drivers? It doesn't make since to me that it would work for the vertical drivers since there are none on the top of the TV to pick up the slack like the side drivers do.

Re: e701i-a3 no picture but backlights
Has anyone ran into the drivers on the bottom being bad? Just curious if that was a possibility?

Re: e701i-a3 no picture but backlights
Ok. I've either got another bad board from encompass or like you said my left side drivers are where the problem is at. The thing is. I tried checking resistance on the coxa resistor before I ever put the board on the tv and I still didn't get the 500 reading on the one pin and the infinite reading on the other pin. I was getting a reading of 2.6 or so on one and like 6 something on the other pin. And I did check the voltage correctly before I hooked up the bottom cables to the board. But didn't get correct voltage readings which made me think...

Re: e701i-a3 no picture but backlights
I think my meter may be messed up or something. I'm getting all sorts of crazy things going on. Not getting any definitive readings.

No I haven't. Remind me again where to check the voltages and what they should be.

Re: e701i-a3 no picture but backlights
Alright guys. So I got my new tcon board in from encompass and installed it. I had all the cables top and bottom hooked up on the board. I had the driver cable on bottom right corner unhooked. And powered on my tv. I've still got no picture. So I very quickly turned off and unplugged the TV. I reconnected the driver cable on the bottom right and unhooked the driver cable on the bottom left. Plugged up TV and powered on. And still no picture. Quickly unplugged TV. Tcon is still good. Any ideas anybody?? I'm at a loss.

Re: e701i-a3 no picture but backlights
But there is definitely the possibility that I accidentally touched something wrong while doing the voltage test that caused the smoke. Lol. But the bad resistance readings straight outta the box make me think it was bad from the get go. Tjmethod

Re: e701i-a3 no picture but backlights
I did the resistance test before I plugged the board onto the TV at all, and got bad readings on both pins of the transistor. One read like 2 and the other something like 10. I then plugged up only the LDVS cables to test voltage where I got bad voltage readings. And noticed the puff of smoke. After all this I determined I more than likely had a bad board but thought I'd give it a try anyways and unplugged the right side vertical driver cable. And did the test that freak came up with. Which of coarse was unsuccessful. Encompass...

Re: e701i-a3 no picture but backlights
I may not have stated that in the clearest way in my previous post. I checked the resistance on the transistor before I hooked it to the tv and got bad readings. So I thought I'd try to put it on the tv and hook up the LDVS cables only, just to see if i might get good voltage readings. Nothing else was plugged into the board yet and I checked voltage on the top canister labeled 3R3 when I removed the probe and was fixing to place it on the next canister I noticed a small bit of smoke come from the area around the canisters and...

Re: e701i-a3 no picture but backlights
I ordered this one from encompass. I'm hoping they will allow me to return it or exchange it for another one that may possibly work.

Re: e701i-a3 no picture but backlights
It should have ohmed 500 on one pin and some crazy high number on the other though right?

Re: e701i-a3 no picture but backlights
No. I don't even think I was touching anything when it did that. But the transistor ohmed that way before all that happened. I checked it first.

And tried the new board just to see and got no v on the picture. Tried unplugging each side of the drivers also and still have nothing.

Re: e701i-a3 no picture but backlights
So I got my new tcon board in and plugged up the LVDS cables and powered it up without the bottom ribbon cables plugged in. Tested voltage on the three canisters labeled 3r3, 100, and 4r4. Got 3.3, 12.57, and 0. I'm thinking my "new" board may not be as advertised. I also noticed while I was checking the voltage a small puff of smoke came from somewhere on the board. I also did the ohms test on the transistor and got like 2.45 on the top pin and 10.6 on the bottom pin. Bad board?

I wondered the same thing but just assumed something like what Freak says....

Ok. I'll try to grab one from somewhere and do exactly that. I really appreciate the help and I'll take pics and update the thread on how things end up going.

Awesome! Thanks a bunch! Next question is. Where is a good reliable place to buy a tcon board?

Re: e701i-a3 no picture but backlights
Hey guys. So I'm new to this forum. But I have the same problems as listed above. I have audio, but no video. Backlight is still coming on, but I have no picture. All I have when the TV is powered on is a dull very faint blueish screen. I am not very experienced when it comes to working on TVs but I have done a lot of research on this issue with this model TV. I have read every comment on this thread and I'm going to walk through this to make sure I understand correctly what needs to be done to "fix" this TV. I have the back cover...
